[Kings Birthday are shut but can get the usual somewhere in a coffee cup with no lights or music.

Are you sure on this ? I was told by someone that they no longer enforce any ban on the 5th of December.

I can't remember who told me this but I think it was someone who owned the bar I was drinking in at the time.

In Chiang Mai the ban has not been enforced for the pass 2 years for either birthday.

From http://bk.asia-city.com/nightlife/news/avoid-these-areas-if-youre-planning-boozy-weekend

Due to the pre-vote and the upcoming by election, the sale of alcohol will be banned from Dec 3-5 and Dec 11-12 in the following areas: Bang Kor Laem, Silom, Sathorn, Klong Toei, Yannawa and Wattana. That means clubs, bars and beer gardens in those neighborhoods will also be closed during those periods. But don't let that put a damper on your blissful long weekends, there are still places for you to get boozy like the good old RCA and Khao San Road.

I just walked past the end of Cowboy and it looks fully open to me. I also heard Soi 4 is open as well.

I heard about the local elections and pre-elections which is why I opened this thread to see if anyone knew any more about it.

I was in the local 7/11 in Sukhumvit Soi 23 about 6:30 this evening and there were some backpacker types trying to buy a bottle of that cheap Thai whiskey and they were refused because 'not sell alcohol'.
