Christmas Dinner

Featured Replies

We ended up at The Holiday Inn at Chidlom in their Cafe G, very good seasonal buffet including as much turkey and ham as you wanted, but sadly no sprouts, very good Thai dishes and plenty of seafood. Had Christmas Pudding, mince pies and a brandy sauce as part of the dessert selection, and free flow soft drinks, all in all very impressed.

The Christmas Lunch was 699, plus that annoying ++, we went for the dinner which was 599++, though by booking and paying in advance we got a discount and paid a total of 1020 including tax and service for the two of us.

I went to a nice hotel in Chiang Mai that had salmon with all the extras, nice moist turkey, decent ham, medium size shrimp, mussels, stuffing, several different kinds of potatoes, lots of nice salads and veggie foods, dozens of really nice deserts, lots of excellent Thai dishes, coffee, tea and much more. It was 650 with no extra charges and you could eat inside or in a shaded area by the swimming pool.

High quality at a reasonable price! :)

sounds nice but the airfare would knock the edge off the value

Having read this thread last night Went to Bully's to give it a try. Overall I was fairly disappointed and wouldn't call it good quality for a reasonable price! More like very average quality for an expensive price 690 ++!

Some of my observations and thoughts are they were 40 mins late to start serving (probably to ensure the purchase of a couple of drinks!)

The cheese board was gone within the first 20 mins and not replenished.

Most starters and salads were gone within the first 30-40 mins and not replenished.

Tiger prawn dish was gone within 30 mins and not replenished.

Mains were average quality and no gravy was available for the first 30 mins by which time it was too late for me. Turkey was so so.

Deserts were average and dry especially as there was no sauce served with them at all. Also didnt see any sticky toffee pudding that was advertised unless that went really fast and I didnt get to it quick enough!

There was a good 10-15 min wait in line to get to the buffet.

I Felt sorry for the people that came in at 3pm an hour after they started serving as there was not so much left!

Anyway I wont be doing it again next year! Tigerfish has the right idea!

Im interested to know how you guys got on with your search for good quality Christmas dinner at a reasonable price! Any better experiences?

couldn't have asked for any better value for money !

had a good build up to Christmas and spent the day at home with the family on the 25th. then polished off what was left over boxing day lunch time, then went to the Londoner that evening for their 470 baht buffet. and as thought all the kinds of things you'd expect to eat for Christmas dinner were being served up as well as all the usual fare.

smoked salmon, prawns, trout, smoked and deli style meats, pate, a choice of soups, salads and various types of bread.

turkey, beef, pork and lamb accompanied with seasonal veggies and extras like pigs, but no blankets shock1.gif stuffing, Yorkshire puds, cranberry sauce, mustards and gravy.

then for the sweet you could choose Christmas pud, mince pies with custard, Thai style sweets, western style sweets too. like cheesecakes, taramisu, creme brulee, choco pots and other cakes/ pastries.

and to top it all off they had a decent selection of cheeses and biscuits including brie, cheddar, double Gloucester and blue vein and served with a coffee and tea.

all in all couldn't have asked for any better. must have eaten at least the cost of what we paid in the first trip to the starter part of the buffet considering what you pay for such items out here that are imported into the supermarkets.

just pity all the poor sods that actually did fork out on the day, to only be left feeling slightly cheated and out of pocket.

what i saved in waiting the extra day and paying for a family day out i got two bottles of vino out of the experience. not to mention a 50 % off voucher for next time i go there for spending over 1000 baht. biggrin.gif
