I was in Elite book store a few days ago and the owner told me he would be closing the shop either end of December or end of January. He has another Elite book shop about 50 m down Sukhumvit Soi 24 that will remain open.

Update:

Elite IS closing... But they have NO Other location and are not planning on opening one in the near future.

I know this as they "were" a customer of mine, and I talked with the owner yesterday.

Very interesting because I was also in the shop a couple of weeks ago and it was the owner who told me fto visit their other shop on Soi 24. I know they have a shop on this soi because I used to live there and have seen it. Next time I'm in town I'll take a look to confirm this.

The store is Opposite the Emporium, between the Skytrain station and Soi 33. It is a few doors to the right of Villa Market and Subway Sandwich shop and to the left of Robin Hood Pub.

It is easy to find the location on the new "Soi Sanook Cartoon Map" of Sukhumvit, available in about 200 locations along Sukhumvit between Siam Sq and the Emporium.

About 10 years ago I had the idea of buying the bookstore but at that time I was still working and didn't have the time or money to do it.

I am retired now and if it wasn't in BKK I would happily immerse myself in there 10 hours a day.

It is a shame as they have been there as long as I have been coming to Thailand which is 17 years now.

The woman who owns Elite used to be married to the guy with the shop right off soi 24. (down the small soi right across from the side entrance to the Emporium where it says "Book"). They used to not get along, but maybe it is forgive and forget now that they are not competing anymore.
