Posting Styles

Well, this is a milestone post for me so I thought I'd put a bit of an effort into a topic that has been on my mind for some time. :D

I read a lot of peoples posts on ThaiVisa, and have come to recognise individual personalities in their posts - some good, some not so good, some humourous, some ironic, some political, some trollish, some youthful and naive, and some down right negative... etc.

I find it sometimes disappointing that some people post just for the sake of being heard... offer nothing constructive at all, bad mouth others, make themselves out to be more intelligent or educated than others, or generally try lower the standard of the ThaiVisa community. Some I suspect have never made a Thailand-related post. :D

My style? Well I'm not sure what you folks would say, but generally I try to answer questions if I know the answers, add a bit of humour here and there, add news clippings of interest, and enjoy some light hearted banter now and then. :D

When I click on "View New Posts" I see all the usernames in the last posts column, and if I see the names of certain people, I always click to see what they've written.

What posting styles do you like, and who are your favourite (or least favourite) ThaiVisa personalities? If you don't want to name them, just describe the posting style and I'm sure we'll be able to figure it out from there... :D

I'll save my own opinions for now... I'll let you know later if this thread develops. :o

That's real sweet... :D

But why I posted this in Bedlam, was to try and elicit some more honest and explicit replies from the more senior members... well the 500+ posters anyway.

Yes, I am the same as you JD, here to help answer questions and for a bit of banter and humour.

I enjoy reading most posts and only have one member on ignore .

I don't have a favourite, too many to list.

Congrats on reaching Mach 3

Sorry, I forgot to mention, I hate people who just post smilies :o:D

Interesting question. I have always said that Lopburi3 is one of my favorite posters. He just comes on, helps out everyone he can, rarely but sometimes gets humorous and thats about it. He has well over 2-3000 posts but you never see him in here.

Certain people have writing styles that as soon as you read them, you could tell who it was without even seeing their name. These people, like them or not, are easily recognized IMO and they are:

Thomas Merton

DJ Pat

Bambina

Boo

Scampy

I enjoy reading posts of the following:

LovelyCutie--A darling woman that tells it like it is. 246.gif

Boon Mee--Politics aside, his sense of humor is wonderful. 4-looney.gif

Jeff1--A good guy

LoveDaBlues--Also a great sense of humor

Narachon--Another good sense of humor

Bambina--Even though she is confusing sometimes, I have to give her credit for diversity. She actually reminds me of a poster that is no longer here.

I left off some people. There are too many too list. I think about it more later.

Still wondering what happened to Fester, Merlin and Spellbound?

I'll usually scan the topic headings, and if I see something interesting, I'll read pretty much all the posts.

If I think I have something to contribute to the thread, I'll do so. Otherwise I'll read the posts and move on. (Which helps explain why it's taken me over 8 months to get into the Bedlam forum !)

When replying, I usually try to make sure what ever I write is accurate, meaningful, based on first hand knowledge or from reputable sources (although I've posted the odd nonsensical drivel from time to time, such as my "Ode To Pattaya").

When in doubt, I use a spell checker (though my grammar may be suspect in some cases). Where need be, I'll take the time to look up information on the net, even if I'm in the middle of a post.

I do find quite often that nobody reads my responses anyways (or so it seems). Depending on the topic and my knowledge of it, I tend to ramble on, turning short replies into sleep-inducing monologues :o (kind of like this one !)

On occasion, some my posts have generated negative responses (OK, some people read some of my posts, some of the time), but that's the price you pay for having your own opinion, and the willingness to voice it.

Now that I have almost put myself to sleep, I'll.........zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Sriracha John is coming out with some good political material at present.

Kat is still hitting home runs on trafficking and sociology.

Butterfly is providing some high voltage.

Scouser - who is I daresay is the most popular person on the entire Board if there was a vote!

Since I come to Thaivisa for information, posts that don't include such is a waste of my time, IMHO.

Thus my pet peeve is emotion signs only posts. 2nd pet peeve is one liners that are not informative. Positive one liners underline the truth of a prior post are informative in my view.

While I have had some complaints that my posts are overly long, I try to provide information in as much detail as I can and from my personal experience, unless I otherwise indicate.

I guess a 3rd pet peeve are those who think they are funny and take an otherwise informative thread off subject and with the contribution of other one line emotion and joksters, denegrate the thread into drivel.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, one takes the good with the bad, so a few key strokes corrects my peeves, as they would for those who don't like my posts.

Is there a contest going on among the mega-posters who seem to post only "cheesy" emotion symbols to see who can have the most drivel posts. Seems like a lot more lately from posters who used to have something worthwile to post.

I've got a very dry, warped, bizzar sence of humor and am as dyslexic as lots of dyslexic things. So I dont usually post that much funny stuff as it just does'nt come across that well on forums. Saying that I do like posters that attempt to be a bit more "off the wall".

The Moog is often amusuing and I think technicaly a good writer, The Eye of Saron has a simular style :o Chownah posts some bizzar replys but strangley I always seem to undrestand them and he knows a bit about farming :D Fatter than harry used to be great when he was posting regularly

I'm not that keen on the overly political stuff all too black or white.

On liners or smilies dont really bother me. At the end of the day if you dont like something don't read it and dont reply to it.

I like the posting styles of the people who live in the south....and the further south you get the better the style is....people from the north have really sucky posting styles...never look to the north for good style....not the north...definitely......

That's why, Jai Dee, the saying goes: เรื่องเอาใจคนไทยไม่เเพ้ใคร - No one beats the Thais at pleasing others! :D

I always read Tutsi's comments/posts - nice dry wit & honest too.

Let’s face it, anyone who posts more than a thousand postings to a forum like Thaivisa, who is not an immigration lawyer or someone of that ilk, is a sad dork who believes sitting at a computer is a viable substitute for living a real life – including myself (I, respectfully exclude anyone who has a physical disability from this description).

Threads like this only confirm the case.

Threads such as this one are, IMO, as close to real life as mutual masturbation is to procreative sexual activity.

I tend to like reading the majority of posts on here. Because all of you are older and wiser than me I find it interesting to see your view points on be it life in general or politics.

But I also enjoy reading the posts that just make me crack up laughing and the posters that are a bit crazy. There are too many to name so I'm not going to attempt naming any!

Jai Dee - I wonder who the youthful and naive poster is. Heh.

Jeeeze, Tom, that's a terrible condemnation of those who have >1k posts?

Maybe some of us have jobs where we're at or near a keyboard all day and want to exchange thoughts on daily life via TV?

You still wish to raise the level of verbal sparrring here, start a poetry or history thread? :o

With the greatest of respect and not wishing to start a holy war here, but I hope you work for yourself.

Because if you worked for me, regardless of how sympathetic I may feel these thoughts are, you would have been fired months ago.

This one is difficult for me to answer as being a mod I tend to look at different things in a post. Sometimes I have restrain myself from posting because I AM a mod, shame as I do have other things to say.

I also tend to log in ASAP in the mornings to moderate my own posts from the night before :o

I can't really answer your question truthfully Jai Dee as I need to remain impartial, however I do have my favourite posters and it really pains me when I have to send a warning or even edit a post from some of my "friends".

Then you get the abusive PM's which sometimes can be death threats, is it worth it? I hope so, but I do ask that question from time to time.

Congrats on the big 3 mate!

Subject Titles are what interest me - if its interesting and catchy I'm bound to read.

You'd fire me only as you find my politics not to your liking! :o

Politics has nothing to do with it.

All who worked for me, had strict guidelines as to what they could use the computer for.

Writing their daily thoughts on a forum was not included in them.

Time is money. I had to account for the number of employees it was necessary to achieve our targets, just as each employee had to account for the use of his time whilst in service.

My present position gives me some latitude in that respect. :D

TM is right. You really shouldn't be on Forums if you're at work ! They're addictive and you never get any work done. Its not on.

Again, with respect, I would suggest at 4,444 postings, your present position not only gives you some latitude, but you also seem to be able to take all longitude. the equator, the tropics of Capricorn and Cancer as well.
