dekbahnnok
....and who would even notice? Yes. These are the people who would notice: the Russians, the Chinese, me, my friends who live here, Thais from BKK. Even sex tourists who are looking for more than just bars/brothels 24/7. Regardless of how cynical we may all be, one fact is undisputable: Pattaya by a clean-ish beach is better than Pattaya by a degraded beach. So many beetches in Pattaya for so little beach. RKASA
One solution only: bring in the specialist dredgers from Holland to restore the beach; suck the sand from further away and spit it out.... Costly, but there's no other option. If they can build many islands in Dubai they can restore a few kilometers of beach in Pattaya. LaoPo A fake beach in Thailand - some how fits right in. Why not move the sand indoors and have climate controlled beaches. No rain - not to much heat - no jet ski etc You can out them closer to the airport. Basil B
Well, we can spin this, don't worry. Pattaya is already becoming Bangkok by the sea. Next step, Bangkok will be Pattaya by the river ... More likely, Bangkok will be Pattaya in the river ...
GentlemanJim
I have never been to Pattaya but honestly, do people really sit on these beaches to relax???? Unbelievable. Businesses using sandbags to protect their deck chairs, and people sit here when Thailand has so many fantastic unpopulated beaches. The mind boggles. bartender100
Take it or leave it, Pattaya beach is packed everyday, the water is a lot cleaner than 10 years ago, then you would never see Thai's swimming in it, now you do. Again the Pattaya basher's come out when its mentioned, when none of them have set foot in the place for years or even never. I said on another thread Pattaya is changing rapidly to an international resort, some very high quility hotel and condos built or being built, and sold out. No sorry i dont get it either, if in 52 it was 30 metres deeper youd have to have a room on the 10th floor to have a sea view and as the sea out to Ko Larn rarely goes over 12mts deep...??? but dont forget this is the WORLD famous Pattaya beach we are talking about what like Blackpool 55555

marinediscoking
"From what my eyes can see, the beach gets smaller between November and February only. But when the wind changes direction after that, the beach gets bigger again," I would agree with this statement. I have been jogging on pattaya beach many years and the sand does come back in the summer months. However this year is a bit different because i am seeing the tops of some big rocks exposed that i have not seen before.

When they left they stopped in south Pattaya, 2 nd road, thai food, corner Pattaya land soi 1.,,, 2 months ago I ventured for a quick dip at Jomptien and got out fast-as 2 big Turds were floating nearby-(no they were real turds). You said Pattaya Beach is packed every day ????....maybe now they only have 2 meters of sand left. I,m not Pattaya bashing, near everyones posts are the same, read them they all cannot be wrong--yours is the first one for the good word on our Resort. You mean a restored beach to the once 35 meters in the '50's. That's not fake that's called restoration. If they would restore the beach to a wide beach more tourists would come; the beaches in Pattaya and Jomtien are a disaster now and don;t deserve the word "beach". If they woul only get rid of 75% of the beach chairs on Jomtien, tourists would be able to breath and see something again... Now it's like a forrest of chairs and umbrellas/parasols and SO ugly LaoPo
Crushdepth
Beaches come and go, they aren't permanent features. If you want it to be a permanent fixture you might need to dump sand on it periodically. Works for us in Australia.

IvanDobsky
What's the deal with the beach? It's where dirt meets water. Whenever you have a poo in Pattaya, it gets pumped out about five miles off shore. Call me old fashioned if you will, but I'm not swimming in that. Spalpeen
The most important word in the headline here is "could". webfact
Help for operators on shrinking Pattaya sands By The Nation Pattaya City deputy mayor Ronnakij Ekasing yesterday offered to relocate beach-bed operators whose businesses were suffering from the erosion that has left little beachfront in some areas. "If the beach disappears to a point that there's no space for them to erect beach beds, we will relocate them to another spot to help maintain their livelihood," Ronnakij said. He said officials would also check on big trees whose roots were fully exposed on some eroded beaches. "We will urgently solve the problem because the trees may collapse," he said. Bang Lamung district chief Mongkhon Thamkittikhun said although it was common for large portions of sand to disappear from Pattaya Beach during winter, the erosion is now a problem after new facilities blocked the sand from coming back during summer. "That's why we can't just rely on the natural process," he said. An academic has proposed that sand refilling be conducted to prevent the Pattaya beachfront from disappearing altogether. -- The Nation 2011-01-

LaoPo Totally agree, These So called Beaches, are about the last ones you want to come to on a holiday, unless you have a white stick. The sand is not sand as we all know- IT'S GRIT. The type in western countries put on icy roads. The sand on the banks of the Mekong are nicer in the low river months. No one comes to Pattaya for the beach resort, who is going to pay large air, fares to sit on this tip. It stinks and most deck chair venders are unclean-where do they clean their glasses and plates ????. It stands to reason people come here for OTHER things. Its not a family resort, who would want to bring children here with their bucket and spade, and play among samples of sewer water. Replace the sand, and as the previous poster said, sort the sewage out. Other attractions here keep it going, but not for that much longer, also get rid of the rip offs, then you will make some headway.

bartender100
Took these this afternoon for all the poster's on here who have not been, or never been to Pattaya so they can see what it is actually like. Years ago you could not swim in the bay, times have changed Pattaya has a top notch sewage plant for a few years now, these people swimming seem happy enough, erosion happens all over the world, beaches come and go , i know i come from a seaside resort. Ok so the beach is not so wide at the moment, but its bloody long (3 Miles ?)Plenty of room for everyone The sea is a little cloudy, but not dirty, because the sea is rough this time of year (no turds sorry ginjag) and the sewage is NOT dumped 5 miles out whoever posted that. They just need to get rid of the jetski's, but those guys are going to put themselves out of business anyway soon.Open your eye's don't listen to what you want to hear, The Hilton is not stupid, they would not have spent billions like they have

Another 20-30 meters (wide) of beach wouldn't harm Pattaya; the walking space between the sea and the deck chairs is pretty small at some locations and uncomfortable to walk.
