Money From Overseas Given To A Thai For House

Hi gang,

A follow on from a more complex question I posted in Business forum.

If a farang gives his wife money transferred from abroad for a house

purchase, does the Thai have to pay tax on it?

I don't think so as the money should've been taxed already but

am trying to help out a friend whose marriage has gone tit's up.

Buying a house/propety/land you must pay transfer taxes at land office, and thats it

selling it is another case

There is no gift tax in Thailand. So any money gifted to the wife is free and clear.

one should be aware transfering money to Thailand amounts above 20k usd/700k baht will have to pass a laundry control
