Pub Fight - Uniformed Police Prevent Fatally Injured Getting To Hospital

This story was on the front page of Thai Rath - Tuesday - 15 February - and was also reported on the TAN Good Morning Show - English commentary - 7.00 AM of same day. I have seen no mention of this story on any English-language web forums here in Thailand. I have translated this story from the original Thai Rath story.

On Valentine's Day a group of fifteen Thais went to a well-known bar/music venue on Phetkasem Road - Bangkok. The group was from Samut Sakhon. During the evening one of the group was alleged to have insulted one of the waiters and as they were departing the bar - in the car park - they were challenged by the venue's security who demanded to know which particular member had been insulting to a member of staff earlier. A fight ensued in which four members of the group (customers) were attacked - two fatally at the scene. Two individuals were stabbed in the heart with a long bladed knife.

What is particularly shocking is that two uniformed police officers were present at the time of the attack or soon after. They apparently did nothing and then after the vicious attack had taken place they prevented members of the injured party taking their injured to hospital by blocking the entrance to the car park. Two died from stab wounds to the heart - for lack of immediate medical attention - and two others received stab wounds and lacerations.

The following day members of the "injured" party lodged complaints with the police.

In their defence the two officers said they could do nothing at the time as there "were only two of them" and fifteen in the group that had visited the pub.

<snip> to the deaths of the party-goers.

I was reading that story too. Apparently the bouncers used tazers on them as well.

Wonder if the bouncers were off-duty policeman moonlighting, hence the lack of help and hindrance from the uniformed officers?

Police will never involve themselves in something that might get them hurt. It's the same attitude that Thai express when something really bad happens. "Its not my problem."

What the two officers really said was " Sorry but we shat our pants at the thought of being outnumbered and hid in a corner, despite the fact we had guns."

Lads, you are a credit to your uniform. No wonder the public shows such great trust and admiration for the BiB

Maybe the two officers should team up with this fellow. I'm sure with his toilet and their sh*t they will make a formidable crime fighting team. And at least we know one of them isn't afraid to fire shots!!

So if this story is to interpreted correctly, two people were murdered by employees of a night club, the murderers are quite possibly going to walk, and the night club owners are not going to held accountable in any way.

Wasn't there an article in the main forum about Thailand trying to clean up graft and corruption? This would be a good place to start.

Totally unncessary tragedy.

Bar with police financial interests?

There is a new pub on Silom soi 4 that is owned and operated by a member of the Thai Police Department. Each night, former police officers from clubs around that area to check in. Each night, security guards from other local pubs and disco's come by his office in his pub and meet with him.

Any clues as to where this place was as I some times venture out on Phet kasem and would like to avoid this place, I know no name can be published but how about a building near it so I can have a good guess.

In the Thai press it seems to be referred to as the 'Smooth Pub'.

Just like the ghetto. A verbal insult results in a couple of deaths.

Mentalities & outlooks on Life are not a million miles apart..

And people wonder why I have such a cynical outlook on Thai culture. Multiple murders over verbal insults and no one will be brought to justice.
