redmaple5 Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 I'm wondering if the new USA health law will make it possible for US citizens to get US/Expat health insurance that will cover expats when we're traveling/living abroad. Seems like it should from 2014, no?
Jingthing Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 I strongly think absolutely not. Why? Well, bona fide expats will be exempt from the must buy insurance rules. Travel insurance is not for full time expats. US based insurance is tied to home US state of residence. So by their standards, even if you have a US mailing address, you won't be seen as a state resident.
Langsuan Man Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Not to mention that the Republicans and Tea Partier's are hell bent to roll back the legislation
InterestedObserver Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Not to mention that the Republicans and Tea Partier's are hell bent to roll back the legislation They may try and refuse to fund the program, but the Senate will never repeal the law.
jazzbo Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 (edited) As K. JT says, the exemption from insurance purchase mandate will probably be tied to the same IRS 330-day exemption rule. Edited February 28, 2011 by jazzbo
