ABAC Poll: Upcoming election will be fierce

BANGKOK, 28 February 2011 (NNT) – The majority of Thai people expected that the next general election would be fierce, and all political parties would engage themselves in vote-buying, according to a recent survey by Assumption University Research Center (ABAC Poll).

ABAC Poll Director Dr Noppadon Kannikar reported results of the survey to find out public opinions towards political competitions in the next general election. The study was conducted with 1,679 samples aged over 18 in 17 provinces nationwide from 24 to 26 February 2011.

63.9% of the respondents expected that the next general election would be quite fierce while the rest thought the opposite. Also more than half (61.8%) of the respondents believed that elected politicians would take back their investment for use in the next election while other 38.2% disagreed with the viewpoint.

Slightly over half or 56.2% of the respondents indicated that they witnessed vote-buying in their community during the previous election.

In addition, 75.3% of the respondents believed that all political parties would buy votes in the upcoming election while other 20.1% said only some political parties would do so. Only 4.6% thought that no political parties would buy votes.

Whatever and however but one thing is for sure and it is that next elections will have dirtiest campaigns ever. For both sides this is TO BE OR NOT TO BE situation. So, show time now.

I wonder if the findings of these polls are any different than previous elections? Fierce = closely contested? Fierce = more posters?

there should be an outside body check , and if any MP is caught paying for votes he will be struck off, and if anybody is caught excepting payment for a vote, then maybe a 10 K fine.

Agreed with your idea about body check(i think they have some kind already?) but have to be sure that body check will be neutral and would check both sides equally(which i doubt is possible to make in this situation)...To be sure that body check will not serve to one side just to discredit, eliminate other side.(usually in the world that body check serve to the ruling party)...

Where do they have more than 60% votes? In Parliament or in country?

If you mean they have that much votes in country, that will be real mess for election and especially after election.

Agreed with your idea about body check(i think they have some kind already?) but have to be sure that body check will be neutral and would check both sides equally(which i doubt is possible to make in this situation)...To be sure that body check will not serve to one side just to discredit, eliminate other side.(usually in the world that body check serve to the ruling party)...

How did robint come to the conclusion 60% of "votes" support the reds?

Given the behaviour of the red shirts over the past two years the latter is pretty much a foregone conclusion.

Ah good ol' vote buying! The cornerstone of democracy. It happens everywhere. Just look at what vote buying in the US is creating now with the unions. The unions buy the democrats and Obama, Obama and the dems launder the money back through the government in terms of union give backs that make the union bosses rich and the cycle repeats all over. Been going on forever.

Why not use another name we are use to "Pork Barrelln".
