Last time I went back the question to me was "Why are you visitng the United States?" (this while holding my American passport). I snarled at him and he said "Oh, you live here?"

For the last couple of years, I seem to have gotten the third degree from Australian Customs. I am not an Australian resident, but simply a black guy with a shaved head and a British passport. There were times in the past when I never got a secondary customs search. Perhaps putting I don't fit the profile? It is a damned nuisance!

It has just occured to me that perhaps it is irrelevant what the question is in English, the comprehension shown of the English language and the reply in English, with or without accent, may well be a very telling factor in evaluating an entrant.
