Just returned from KL with a new O multi based on marriage. Good for one years cost was 5500 baht. I used this link as a guideline and all the advise is fairly spot on

http://www.thaivisa....84#entry3789284 I would advise that you try to get some Malaysian currency before you depart Thailand and only exchange for what is need to get into town, couple thousand baht. Exchanges rates at the airport and most exchange booths in town are criminal. 8.3 at most while a few are giving 9.5

Yes, for a multiple non-O KL requires you to show 100,000 in the bank. It is one of the few in Asia that will provide a multiple non-O.

Outside of Asia consulates are much less strict. Each consulate/embassy has its own policy.

Last year the Thai embassy in KL accepted a notorized letter from my embassy (and the official Thai governemnt translation) showing my monthly income of 68,000 bhat per month, does anyone know if this is still accepted?

They still try to be helpful is about all we can be sure about but they have set the requirement at 100k in an account so believe that is the sure option. A year ago they were still accepting without for some I believe.

With such a letter you would not even need a visa as one year extensions of stay would be available inside Thailand from Immigration.
