BAGHDAD, IRAQ (BNO NEWS) -- At least two people died and 35 others wounded after a car bomb targeted a busy street in the northern region of Iraq, local authorities said Wednesday.

The attack took place Wednesday morning in the central area of Kirkuk, Iraq, which is located around 250 kilometers (155 miles) north of Baghdad, on Al Joumhouri Hospital Street, al-Sumaria reported.

A report by CNN said seven police officers were wounded during the explosion, as they were parked on the side of the road.

The oil-rich city of Kirkuk is an ethnically mixed area where disputes between Kurds and Arabs are not uncommon.
