Waiting for more info but the initial post is here:

High waves capsize tourist boat at Koh Prab island, Surat Thani; 11 toursts missing /MCOT

it is interesting to note that this is where the Songserm boat sank some 20 years ago killing supposedly only 2 people (one of those an Uncle in law of mine) when the boat sank in high seas and it took rescue workers two hours to find it because the captain had radioed the wrong location and there weren't enough life jackets for everyone.

Has anyone heard anything? Hoping its a false alarm since the news has not been updated since the initial MCOT post.

5 Meter Waves in Chumphon Capsize Fishing/Tourist Boats

Strong waves in the South are wreaking havoc on tourists and fishermen. A tourism boat has reportedly capsizeed in Surat Thani. Initial reports do not indicate whether there are any casualties. Meanwhile, in Chumphon province, five meter waves have capsized 10 fishing trawlers. 14 fishermen survived the incident while two remain missing.

"Westerly Trough"

No. 14 Time Issued : March 16, 2011

The westerly trough and the strong high pressure area from China have moved to northern and northeastern Thailand. During 16-18 March, thunderstorm and gust occurs over the whole country and the wind-waves in the lower Gulf of Thailand from Surat Thani southwards grow stronger is likely 2-3 meters high. All ships should proceed with caution.
