2011-03-23 05:51:54 GMT+7 (ICT)

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (BNO NEWS) -- United Continental Holdings, Inc. on Tuesday announced that Continental Airlines will be offering in-flight Wi-Fi Internet connection on over 200 domestic aircraft in the beginning of 2012.

The company plans to offer the service on its Boeing 737 and 757 aircraft equipped with DirectTV, providing onboard connectivity and more than 95 channels of live television programming to passengers flying within the continental United States.

A letter of intent was signed with in-flight entertainment provider Live TV to offer the Continental service via Ka-band, which is expected to offer high transmission speeds for onboard connection capabilities, including browsing of content-rich websites, sending and receiving e-mails and downloading files, the company said.

United Airlines currently offers in-flight Internet service on 14 aircraft, including on all premium service flights linking New York Kennedy with Los Angeles and San Francisco.
