When To Apply For Extension

My current entry runs out on 6th may, and my non o ends on 12th may.

I know I'm supposed to apply in the last 30 days.

My intention is to apply on 7th for my extension. This is within the 30 days of my current entry, but not yet within the last 30 days of my non o visa.

Have I interpreted it right?

Yes. It has nothing to do with visa validity but with current permitted to stay period.
