The new Phuket media company Phuket Newspaper | Phuket ? Phuket news, events, jobs, classifieds which has an email alerts system, much like the gazette and PhuketWan.

They also have a privacy policy where they make it clear that

We are committed to protecting your privacy. Authorized employees within the company and in the course of carrying out their normal work obligations only use any information collected from individual customers.

We constantly review our systems and data to ensure the best possible service to our customers. Client records are regarded as confidential and therefore will not be divulged to any third party unless authorised by you or if legally required to do so to the appropriate authorities.

We will not sell, share, or rent your personal information to any third party or use your e-mail address for unsolicited mail. Any emails sent by this Company will only be in connection with the provision of agreed services and products.

Yet if you sign up with a one time use email you start to get spammed. Email coming from 'events thailand' caught my eye and a scan of the headers shows.

No question.. The SPAM comes from thephuketnews servers. Not only that, the link to unsubscribe from events thailand mailings lands on a miss configured phuketnews page and doesnt work, you cant unsubscribe.

A bunch of strong emails to them demanding they explain themselves, and if they pass email out to Events Thailand who else they will pass it to, gone unanswered. Its clearly amateur hour and run by a media company with no idea what proper online etiquette or privacy standards are. Morons.

I know its 'only' more spam, but when media companies pull this kind of stuff they need to learn that its not acceptable, especially in small community marketing. Prove yourself to be a liar once, and all trust is gone. I hope any advertisers get a clear picture of the negative effect that spam has also.

So just a heads up, if your signing up for the phuket news email alerts, use a one time email you can shut down or dispose of, who knows who they sell it to next.

I've never signed up for anything yet I received emails from 'events thailand' on all 3 of my various email accounts. I have no idea how they got these email addresses. And when I try to unsubscribe all I get is a message saying that my email address is not recognised. At least the Phuket News spam stopped when I unsubscribed. Not that I even signed up with them.

They are both registered at the same address in Kathu.

Same phone numbers etc.

It seems this paper will become a event and real estate rag with no real stories.

I have been getting several misconfigured and blank emails from The Phuket News as well. What a disaster these guys are.

Don't know how they got my mobile#, but they started spamming my message box there about a week before they published.

Because of that I will never buy or look at their paper.

Ditto. All 3 of my accounts. Typos and bad grammar one time are enough.

Seems like they are searching for as many Phuket email accounts as possible. One of the tools is free or inexpensive advertising. Spammers like this do not get my business. No ads, no paper purchased by me.

English language newspapermerket in Phuket is actually a very small market, and my business goes to a long established paper over the newcommer spammers. Phuket News has displayed their qualities in short time

In my junkmail folder, they are competing with penis enlargement, fake hotel bookings and financial windfalls. Well, they are certainly reading this, and I hope it will make them rethink their marketing policy.

Spoke too soon. Phuketnews back to sending emails to all my email accounts. Oh well, placed that sender on my block list.
