The electric people are still telling me it could be a month before they can get my electric back on. I can't believe they are still working flat out after the storm the other week. I get the impression they are just angling for a bigger pay day. I also don't see them working much around the island either. is anybody else still waiting to be reconnected ?

Cheers Boater. I was beginning to think it was just me :D

It took them 4 days and a large brown envelope just to come and move the poles and the tree so I could drive up the mountain. Just looking for a decent generator now so as never to have this happen again.

Both freezers had to be binned, well at least the dogs ate like kings for a week. They especially liked the lamb chops. A good lump of meat and a bone to boot ;)

30.000 baht for a small generator at HomePro.

Just inside the entrance.

I have just bought one. Max power 6.4 KW, I was told that it should run a medium sized house.

I just set it up and it started first time. I am now looking for an electrician to 'plug' it into the mains. Hummm Songkhran! Not much chance probably. :(

Make sure it gets connected to the mains after the meter, or you will be paying the electric company when using the generator ;)

not being funny but a month seems pretty bad. maybe u could buy a genortor for about 100 k then just as u buy i sods law is that they turn it back on again.

then again i u have 100 k spare then the genorator will help in future shit situations. there again how bad is samui where u have to buy a generator just for basic iving needs.

i mean Iraq has problems with electric but they have been atr war for about 5 years. samui has no exxcuss now. they are no long just an amper they are an amper muang so they the govement had better sharpen up before everyone just leaves.

i went to phuket came back today. it is ram packed full of people. no power cuts.drainage from when it rained.

just better structure and cheaper to get to and no shortage of hotel space.

i am starting to lose my patients with samui. i always give the island the benifit of the doubt though now i amm getting too many doubts. one thing about samui is that it does seem allot more freedome than every where else which i hope does not change becausew that for me is what gives samui its character and keeps me there by a thread. not just a thready in a forum about samui lol

Looking at generators now but the smaller, cheaper ones are all out of stock. I was advised as well to nip over to Surat as they are cheaper than here ? Plus its a large house as well. If anybody knows somebody who can advise on connecting it to the house it would be appreciated as well. Cheers :D

I have a friend who has a great little system installed by the guys from Supot Electric (Bophut/Maenam).

We are on 3 phase - the generator supplies single phase.

Supot wired up a box connected to the main fuses for the house. Power cut - switch off the main fuse box, start the generator, switch on the Supot box.

Sorted. The whole house runs as normal. Even I could do this! B)

Tropical Hi, Thanks for that. We are on the same here. We have, or had 3 :D 3 phase running to the house and will have single phase from the generator. Sounds easy enough to have a separate box with the equipment you want running from the generator in stead of having every appliance drawing from it. Cheers

I decided that with Songran coming, the pool looking greener than the jungle :o and the need for a long hot shower or soak in the bath :) I would go see the maintenance boss at the depot yesterday morning and wish him happy Songkran. He got a small envelope which resulted in a crew turning up to replace the downed poles last night and they reconnected the power just now and the crew that did the work got a case of Sangsom.

It will be a happy Songkran after all :D

Make sure you switch off the main isolator in your electric distribution box, the one with all the trip switches in. Run a cable from the genny to any plug socket in the house and away you go. Worked for me for over 6 months. If you have large Kva genny get good cable.

Hi Guys,

Read this thread with interest... before any of you attempt a DIY generator connection to your distribution board, or sub-panel, please take some time to read through this thread http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/309747-generators-in-thailand/page__p__3102616 hopefully you'll find it well worth your time.

Kind regards,
