Defacing China Town With Smut

It hard not to notice all the pornography stands in and around Yaowaraj Road (china town). Walking my kids down a street the other day and kept running into dido and XXX DVD Smut stands and very openly displayed for the Thai children to enjoy.

At 3 DVD's for 100 THB it's a hell of a small time racket to warrant the defacing China town.

I can't understand the OP. I thought defacing China Town meant painting or drawing lurid pictures on building walls, not selling quasit-contraband items. I didn't realize pornography was illegal in Thailand. And, even if it was it couldn't be called defacing China Town.

If the OP thinks pornography will somehow pervert a child's mind then he/she is certainly naive. There is so much available on any internet site that children today are FAR more advanced than their prudish parents.

I'm surprised that there's anyone who's familiar with Thailand that doesn't know it's illegal -- then again, I guess one might not necessarily know until they tried to buy some...

I'm not anti-porn and I have my doubts about what danger a glimpse of a cover or a sex toy would be, but I can understand if the OP wishes he/she and his/her kids didn't have to see it. But the world, and certainly Bangkok, is filled with stuff that I wish I or my kids didn't have to see. But that's the way it is. (And porn and sex toys in Chinatown are well down the list of concerns, as far as I'm concerned).

Gave us a chance to talk to our kids about prostitution. Awkward, but better they learn this stuff from us parents than on the playground.

My motto (and my theory): while obviously there's some ages that certain things are best not gotten into, ultimately you don't protect children with ignorance; honest communication back and forth, knowledge, and good judgement (which hopefully you teach them) is what will (hopefully) keep them safe (or safer).

Besides, as you say, they will learn things elsewhere but if they learn some important things that you tried to hide from them, you are discredited -- and they might not get the right mesage from whomever is teaching them...

So it hasn't happened yet but if my 7 year old son asked me about scantily-clad ladies sitting on bar stools, I'd tell him the honest (though G-rated) truth.

I'm constantly amazed at how murder and mayhem is perfectly acceptible with all the computer games, and yet anything regarding sex is somehow wrong. On any given day the internet shops are filled with young boys from 5 to 15, and they are all busy killing people on the computer screen. But, heaven help us if someone should show a bared female breast. I don't see ONE creative internet game where anybody is actually LEARNING anything other than how to kill someone.

I know, I was once a little boy a couple of centuries ago, and our favourite games were mostly violent with plastic guns and bows and arrows. We played cowboys and indians in North America... and the indians were always the "bad" guys. That is not politically correct in today's society. Even most male sports are violent to some degree.

Sort of like when I have a date and I am unable to consumate the event because I am so tired or its too hot. I have a running battle now with someone that insists that the AC be no lower than 25. I have been asked why do I need a cover on top of the sheet if its too hot. And I try to explain that I like my head cool but the rest of my body comfy. This is my he11. No no too cold. Yes, yes too hot. OK, I will go sleep in the other room to which I reply fine, what's the difference between that and someone wrapped in a towel with a bathrobe on top? This is why some turn to smut. I don't use it because I'd be embarrassed if the cleaning lady saw it. She's an older woman, mid 50's and I don't want her thinking I'm a perv. I don't even leave my underwear lying about.

Oh no, not porn, what about the hookers on every street corner calling obese and ugly men "handsome man" (kid's arent s naive as some farang). Best way to teach your kids about these things is once they hit puberty, take hm to Cowboy and buy him a lap dance.
