Suicide blast kills police chief in south Afghanistan

KANDAHAR, AFGHANISTAN (BNO NEWS) -- An Afghan police chief was killed on Friday after a suicide bomb blast struck a police headquarters in the southern region of the country, officials said.

According to reports, the suicide attacker entered the provincial police headquarters in south Kandahar province wearing a police uniform at around 2:30 p.m. local time, and entered Brigadier General Khan Mohammad Mujahid's office before detonating the explosives, which were strapped around his body.

Government spokesperson Zalmay Ayubi told Pajhwok Afghan News that the attack resulted in Mujahid's death and caused two other police officers to be critically injured.

Police cordoned off the area immediately after the incident and helicopters were seen flying over as investigations were being carried out.

Through its website, thee Taliban claimed responsibility of the suicide attack.
