ANKARA, TURKEY (BNO NEWS) -- The parliaments of Indonesia and Turkey on Tuesday agreed to increase cooperation in the fields of military and defense industry, officials said.

Indonesia's Chairman of the House of Representatives Commission I for defense, information and foreign affairs Mahfudz Siddiq, told Antara news agency that Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and President Abdullah Gul had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to boost military and defense industry cooperation between the two countries.

The MoU was signed as the Indonesian parliament delegation currently visits Turkey in which meetings were held with the management of ROKESTAN Industry - which produces rockets - and the management of 'FNSS Industry' - which produces combat vehicles.

In addition, following the upcoming legislative elections in Indonesia, which are scheduled to take place in June, the Turkish parliament has planned an official visit to the Southeast Asian country, Mahfudz said.

On Monday night, Turkish multinational company 'Nurol Holding Co' held a banquet in honor of the Indonesian lawmakers, who are scheduled to speak with President Gul by phone on Tuesday evening.
