Two-week countdown before House dissolution: PM

By The Nation

Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva on Wednesday informed his Cabinet members that they had two weeks before the government term expires due to House dissolution, paving way for the early election.

"There will be two meetings to clear the work and ministers should speedily submit agendas requiring the Cabinet debate and approval," government spokesman Panithan Wattanayagorn quoted Abhisit as saying.

The prime minister instructed the Cabinet Secretariat to coordinate with the Council of State and the Election Commission to determine the job which could be carried out by the caretaker government in the lead up to the poll, he said.

I've never known a Thai government being so definite about when their house will be dissolved. One would think that surprise is one weapon. Perhaps the planning helps the army or something. Or is the EC so incapable that they need big head-way?

Or very simply, Abhisit wanted to make a point of calling early elections with prior notice, which for the third time makes the reds look bad since he offered twice before: once before they turned violent again in April 2010, and again in May 2010 he offered as a last attempt to not have to use security forces to clear that armed rabble out of downtown BKK.
