For anyone traveling to Phu Wiang, located about 1.5 hours north-west of Khon Keon, there are from what I can gather, two places to stay in this small Issan hamlet: Pruksa Resort and Lawadee Resort. Both are small bungalow "resorts" that give new meaning to the term (and not in a good way). Both are located on the same small street just off Phu Wiang's main drag (Highway 2038). They are both very bare bones affairs, with about 13-15 rooms each, from B 400-600 per nite. They are both suitable for functional stays in town if some one has a reason to be in the immediate area, however, neither are very comfortable and have very minimal conveniences. The beds at both are hard as rocks and the restaurants at both serve very plain and basic Thai food. Neither has a pool or any other amenity other than the rooms.

In short, stay away from these places unless you have business in the immediate area and need someplace close by to rest your head. If possible, continue down Highway 12 another 20 minutes or so to Chumpae, where much more comfortable accommodations are available.
