Two cases, seeming unrelated (one a tourist and one an ex-pat), of murder within 3 days...and both occuring only 30 Km from each other:

70-year-old Japanese man murdered in Pattaya hotel

(Kyodo) _ A 70-year-old Japanese man was found murdered Thursday at a hotel in Thailand's eastern resort of Pattaya, police said Friday.

Pattaya police said a hotel staffer found the victim dead Thursday morning in a bathtub of his room, his wrists and feet bound.

They said they found evidence of a possible struggle in the bedroom, including several shattered beer bottles. The victim was apparently dragged to the bathroom and then dumped in the tub.

Police suspect the motive was robbery. They said they are searching for a man who left the hotel not long before the victim was found.

Mystery surrounds the death of a Japanese man in Sriracha

A story now from our colleagues in nearby Sriracha District. Police Lieutenant Paragon from Sriracha Police Station was called to the Sriracha Place Condominium to room number 7/29 owned by Mr. Macheeda Masa-egee aged 57 from Japan, who is the owner of the Kowshima Japanese Restaurant in Soi 5, Sriracha Nakhon. The alarm was raised after the man failed to come to work for two days. Inside the room there was evidence of a struggle but no evident signs of trauma were clear on the corpse. Mysteriously the dead man was clutching a golf club. For now the death remains a mystery and Police are awaiting the results of a post mortem examination which Police believe may show the man died of natural causes even though evidence of a possible struggle were found. The Japanese Embassy in Bangkok has been informed and is conducting an independent investigation.

Indications in the above case point to murder.

Knowing how normally Japanese are with keeping their living spaces in such fastidious order, I would definitely think there was quite a struggle on in the room if the PCN photos are any indication. It's in a complete mess. This is all rather unsettling as I used to live in the same condo building... and never witnessed any untoward actions... let alone any crime, no break-ins, no fights, no shouting, even. An extremely quiet and very peaceful place... which makes the thought of some violent, things-getting-smashed-type struggle going on in a room and not attracting a lot of on-lookers rather perplexing.
