Getting Pacemaker Checked In Thailand

Featured Replies

Hello,

My father needs to get his pacemaker checked soon and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions/ recommendations of good hospitals here. I know Phya Thai 2 has a Heart center and is part of Partner's Harvard Medical International. I've also heard good things about BNH and Bumrungrad. Any suggestions?

Background for those wondering "why travel for such routine procedure?": He had the pacemaker placed a few years ago while working in Russia. He recently retired to Abuja, Nigeria but is not too thrilled about health services there even for something as simple as getting his pacemaker checked. He's planning on going back to Russia or maybe the US but, I think that is ridiculous especially knowing US health care costs.

Thanks!

He might want to consider going to National University Hospital in Singapore, I've just returned from there and was hugely impressed by their facilities and professionalism, interestingly it was cheaper for me to have my tests done at NUH than to stay in Thailand and have them done at Bangkok/Phuket or Bumrungrad hospitals - one example:

cost of PCI with bare metal stent at NUH - SGD12,900 (or about GBP6,000) - same procedure done at B/P or Bumrungrad THB 500,000 (about GBP 10,000! Angiogram costs in Thailand have gone from THB20,000 to over THB100,000 in two years, and you thought Singapore was expensive!

@chiang mai: We're not too familiar with Singapore and for something so simple it's probably easier to come here since I'm here and we could make a family trip out of it :)

And yes, he is under 65. So...I guess I'll just go in and see if I can speak to some cardiologists to get info. If anyone has any names from personal experience that would be great!

Thanks again

Any of the hospitals you mention should be able to do this. So should Samitivej, Bangkok Hospital and Vejthani.

I take it your father is under 65 years? As otherwise medicare should cover it in the US....
