Hi

Not sure if anyone can help. My brother lives in Thailand and we had news this morning that he has been in an accident and is in hospital. It sounds serious. Due to language barriers we are unsure what is wrong with him and what we need to do. We have called the embassy too but they say they are passing the info to the embassy in BK tomorrow. Understandably we really want to know what is wrong with Rob now in case it is very serious.

I googled and found this forum. As sais, im not sure if anyone can help but if there is anyone who is fluent in thai who would be willing to find out the situation and let us know, his family are very concerned.

Sorry again if this is the wrong place but we are very concerned. We just want to know in English what exactly is wrong with him

Please reply

Thank You

Sorry to hear of your predicament ,Be Ashored that Thai people can speak English very well,A lot of the Thai Doctors where trained in the UK . Maybe you should call the Hospital and ask for Information , be very carefully if you are approached and asked for money up front from friends who claim to want to help best of luck hope every thing is OK.

Thank you very much for replying.

We have tried to speak to the hospital but we struggled to find anyone who could speak english who could tell us what has actually happened to him.

We just need someone who can ask the hospital in thai language, and tell us in English.

Thank you again for your concern and reply

we had news this morning

How did you receive the news?

Which hospital?

be very carefully if you are approached and asked for money up front

As Thongkorn states be careful, there are many internet scams, very authentic, doing the rounds at the moment, regarding people in hospital/jail whatever, and requesting money to get them out of a fix.

They hack individuals email account and send emails to each and every person that has ever been a recipient of the account.

Good Luck

Tell us the name of the hospital. From that we can get the phone number a contact person.

I am sure they will not release any info to out side people not related. And YES watch out for scams.

Sorry but i find it hard that nobody at the Hospital does not speak English, My Thai Wifes Mother works at a Hospital out in the Sticks, and there are many English speakers.Try Googling the Hospital to see if you have the correct place. Do you ghet the same person all the time , if so that may say some thing.

Exactly.

Can the OP be more specific on how he came to hear of the news? Just how, no need to give personal details. Then perhaps there will be some who are able to assist including myself, as no one wants be become involved in a wild goose chase or a scam.

The Tourist Police has many offices around Thailand. A phone call to the nearest one should produce an English speaking Officer, or a Volunteer who might be able to help you.

Google Amazing-Thailand Tourist Police.

As a starting point, unless I have missed it, you haven't told us where abouts in Thailand your brother is. Thailand is quite a large country - bigger than the UK, so pin-pointing his location would be a help.

Do you know what town and/or province he lives in?

Posted

Another point is that sometimes people maybe trying to track down others for dubious reasons. The OP could be a contract killer for all we know.

Again, the OP appears shy when asked to be more specific, so caution is advised when giving out information or before becoming involved.

Hi

I am neither shy nor a contract killer! Seeing as we are quite concerned we have spent most of this morning trying to find out via various routes and phonecalls.

Rob is at Chachoengsao hospital which is where he lives. Apparently he went head on into a truck on his motorcycle at 5am this morning (Thai time)

We now have some info that his femur/leg is badly broken and has been pinned. He was unconscious we think but is now responsive. He has been intubated and has been tied down to prevent movement. This is all from various Chinese whispers of people who know him in Thailand. Still not had exact confirmation. Hospital now not answering phone and no news from embassy as yet. Somebody mentioned abdominal surgery and some said bleeding from his head. These are the things we need confirming so we know what action to take next. Also how to pay for his care as he is there alone and we want to help.

We found out via his ex g/f (and still close friend) who is a Thai national. She received a call this morning as they must have found her number on his phone we imagine. She called us but had no details and her English is not great.

We were just hoping to find someone to get a definitive answer as im sure you can appreciate we are a bit anxious.

I understand the concern that this may be a scam and thank you for those who offered help.

Luara.

As it is about 9PM here Sunday night it is most likely you will not get an answer from the hospital. Not until tomorrow morning. The hospital is roughly 21 miles east of Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok. It's about a hour drive or more from where I live in Bangkok and I have no car at the time or I'd drive out there.

Unless someone else post it I'll get the right hospital number for you call. If they need funds a SWIFT money transfer will work but you'll need to make sure you have the correct information before sending.

We have a few brain dead members on TV so ignore some of the posts. They just haven't grown up yet. And probably aren't even here.

Mrjlh, thank you for your offer to help a stranger in need.

Laura, since you're new on ThaiVisa: "PM" means personal message. Click on the letter icon below Mrjlh's avatar in his post and take it from there. This way, only he will see the confidential information you give him and he can reply to you via the same route. Best wishes for your brother; hope he will make a speedy recovery.

Laura,

You are getting whispers from people that know him.....why cant these people go to the hospital and see him?

Would that not be better than relying on strangers?

Hi Laura

Im a Thai and capable for English skills (class B+), i will Pm you my mobile number in case you will need help.

IMO, your bro now is in hospital, so he got already the treatment. But since he is now unconcious, best is hospital must contact your embassy in case it is severe accident. Hospital generally known what they must do, i m sure.

What i can do, in condition that i am in bangkok. You may give his GF my number. I am happy to talk with her.

Dunno if i can help...:( but feel free if u need.

To LauraJaneDelivett, please be careful about this because there have been instances in the past when people reported relatives getting into "accidents" which turned out to be a scam. Please confirm news before acting. Be very wary if the source of information is a person that is a stranger to you - even if they claim to be a "Close Friend" of your son.

Hi

Well we got on the first flight to Thailand and are now in the city with Rob. Have seen him. He's not in the best of ways. Main concern is to try get him moved to a hospital in BK so trying to arrange that

I appreciate those who have sent PMs etc but can't reply to all at the moment. Had barely any sleep and need to get to hospital. It's nice to know there is help there if needed. At the moment we have secured translation and help from others but if any more help needed then I know where to come.

Thanks again to those who offered help

If anyone does have advice re: best hospital to transfer or any other related advice re: cost/facilities then do post as I feel a bit blind at the moment

All the best Laura.

In terms of hospital: the private ones are ofcourse easier to deal with but can be very expensive.

Some of these include:

Bamrungrad

Bnh

Samitivej

Bangkok hospital

Phayathai hospital

St Louis

Mission

St Louis has some good doctor, but not as crazily

expensive as bamrungrad or smitivej.

I don't know what possobilities are in terms of transferring to public hospital in Bkk. But if you can try

Chulalongkorn

Or

Phra mongkut

Hope he recovers quickly. And if you need anything. Including just someone to sound things off with in the midst of all the chaos feel free to give me' a call

Hi Laura sorry to hear about your brother and I hope he makes a full and speedy recovery.

There are many good hospitals in Bangkok. The Bumrungrad is probably the best but the Bangkok Group of Hospitals and The Samitivej Hospital are international standard too.

Hopefully your brother has insurance as the costs are extremely high. Without insurance you will probably have to pay a deposit and then pay the bill on a daily basis. Contact your Embassy they should be able to advise you on this.

It nice to hear you are with your brother now. Glad we could help. Since you were in a hurry let me remind you there are lots of cheaper hotels and just as nice as the so called 5 star ones. So if you need anything let us know. I'm in BKK if you need anything else just PM me.
