Anyone Have A Hernia Repair Recently?

Featured Replies

I noticed that I had an inguinal hernia on my right side when showering this morning. I had the same on my left about 12 years ago that was repaired in the States. I will need to get this one taken care of at some point. I do not have insurance, so will have to pay out of pocket.

I currently live in the sticks and would like to have this procedure done without breaking the bank. i know that having it done at a Govt. hospital would be the most cost effective, but I would feel more comfortable having the surgery in BKK., preferably at a hospital where there isn't too much of a language barrier.

I know that private international hospitals can be costly, but if there is anyone out there with recent experience with hernia repair and could point me in the right direction as far as treatment and cost, could you please share here or PM me?

Thanks Mizzi

Had one done about 4 years ago at Bangkok Rayong hospital....think the final bill came to about thb 74k, but that was with a private room etc, guessing ward cost would be less....in hosptial two days, and 5 days at home on my back.

Couldnt fault the treatment and yes no language problems

As you have had a hernia before , dont need to tell you to go and get it checked out soonest and dont leave it too long to be repaired

Hospital costs in Thailand have gone up considerably in the last 4 years, I suspect it would cost much more than that now at Bkk Rayong.

If you want to have it done in Bkk and given the cost constraints I think your best bet is St Louis Hospital.

Any of their general surgeons could do it but you I'd particularly suggest this one as he trained in the US (internship + 4 year residency) and is US Board certified

or either of these, also US trained

or this one, trained in Australia

The last doc listed specializes in laparoscopic surgery, which may or may not be suitable for your hernia. usually costs more but recovery time is less.

Thanks Sheryl. I will make an inquiry at St. Louis today.

I received a quote from BNH- 75,000 baht for open hernia surgery and - 130,000 baht for laparoscopic . This a package price including 2 day hospitalization (1 day for laparoscopic) excluding pre op and post op appointments. I had the open (mesh) on my left side with no complications so I am leaning toward that procedure.

Thanks for the replies. Mizzi
