Chaophraya River Water Levels Handled

Featured Replies

BMA WAS ABLE TO HANDLE THE FIRST DAY OF CRITICAL WATER LEVEL

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration or BMA was able to handle the first day of critical water level, but warned people living in low-lying areas near the Chaophraya (เจ้าพระยา) River to be careful during October 19-21.

There was a level of concern yesterday regarding the water level in Chaophraya River, which the Navy's Hydrographic Department predicted would overflow the riverbanks at 20.01 last night. The water level did increase to 1.65 centimeters as predicted. However flooding did not occur at Bangkok's lowest point of Watsoithong(วัดสร้อยทอง) Community, which was reportedly inundated every year, as the BMA had built a fully-fledged water barrier. This was also the case at Khlongbangsue(คลองบางซื่อ), Khlongphrakhanong(คลองพระโขนง), Khlongpremprachakorn(เปรมประชากร), Khlongsamsaen(สามเสน), and Khlongsaensaeb(คลองแสนแสบ), where the BMA had erected sandbag barriers.

As for today, the Navy's Hydrographic Department reported that the water will be at its highest level at 12.49 at noon today, at 1.48 meters. However this will increase to 1.65 meters at 8.30 pm.

Another period of reinforcing seawater will occur during October 19-21, and people in low lying areas close to Chaophraya River are urged to be aware of flooding over the period.

Meanwhile the Royal Irrigation Department has indicated that the water flow quantity in Nakhonsawan Province will increase from 1,792 cubic meters per second to no more than 1,900 cubic meters per second. In about 3 days this quantity of water will reach Bangkok, but the flow quantity will not exceed 2,100 cubic meters per second. If the water flow does not exceed 3,000 cubic meters per second the water barriers will not be spilled over.

Taoism: shit happens

Buddhism: if shit happens, it isn't really shit

Islam: if shit happens, it is the will of Allah

Catholicism: if shit happens, you deserve it

Judaism: why does this shit always happen to us?

Atheism: I don't believe this shit

so all those scare stories of massive floods are just water under the bridge now.

Further North "Nonthaburi" there has been problems with the homes on the river - even the truck park belonging to a Chinese Rice Company next door to us has been flooded resulting in the Company holding the rice at its Korat premises.

Dont always believe what you read in the papers.
