Tourists on Ko Chang decline due to monsoon

TRAT, 8 June 2011 (NNT)-The Human Resources Department of Center Point Ferry pier on Ko Chang or Chang Island has revealed that the number of tourists visiting Thailand’s popular island is declining although they still continue to travel to this place.

According to the Department, most tourists are visiting Ko Chang with tour agents. The majority of them are from Russia. It is believed that the monsoon at this time of the year has kept the visitors away.

The ferry service has prepared extra life vests for tourists while there is also an emergency team on the side just in case of the life threatening incidents. Patients will be transported to Ko Chang Hospital and Laem Ngob Hospital for further medical treatments.

Essentially KC is in partial shutdown during the wet. Always has been.

Visitors should be aware that many facilities - e.g. boat trips will be suspended and travel around the island during heavy rain or storms is not only difficult but potentially dangerous.

yes, that headline was an odd one, given that there is a 'monsoon season' every year - hardly a surprise

We went to Laem Ngob in May 2010 with the intention of crossing to Koh Chang but the weather turned bad, would have been far too rough for an enjoyable trip with children, we headed up the coast a bit and stayed at Chao Lao instead. We are living near there now, and on Wednesday the sea at CL was the roughest I have seen it, in those conditions very unsuitable for children or non-swimmers.

there are rips on the beaches - too - but I saw no signs to indicate this.

Yeah, a lot quieter here now - lot's of the paces are shut for the next couple of months -but life still goes on!!

Whitesands is still generally open but not particularly busy, it's more like places such as Kae Bae, Lonely Beach and Bang Bao which are very, very quiet now.

The last week the weather has been pretty changeable, with some high winds, heavy rains and a number of power outages (all the fun of living on an island). Today so far - overcast, but good enough for some of the diving boats to go out, which they haven't in the last 3-4 days.

There are a few signs around on the beaches, and also on the roads mentioning rips.
