The following applies to BKK immigration!

We know that the official rule for retirement (800K Baht) extension is 2 months for first time applicants and 3 months for all subsequent applications.

Here in BKK the same rule had been applied for "Thai Wife" extensions (400K Baht) for the past three years, Even had to sign a paper to that effect even though the official written rule states only 2 months for all applications.

Last week I went for my annual renewal and was presented with the same paper but it stated that from now on the deposit has to be in the account for 2 (two) months on the day of application.

I asked the officer and she said that yes it is now two months for all applications, "Immigration finally compromised" (Her words!)

Thanks for the news. I am applying for my extension now - based on Thai wife. I will have seasoned the money for 3 months. I will continue to season the money for 3 months in the future as well as I have no confidence in the Immigration officers not changing their minds again whistling.gif

I was presented with the same piece of paper 2 weeks ago stating that for future extensions, B400k has to be in the bank for only 2 (two) months prior to extension application and not 3 as in the past.

Just to clarify, does this now apply to just an individual, say with no Thai spouse, applying for a Retirement Extension of Stay where you are suppose to have 800K in the bank? Or are you saying this rule change only applies for a Thai Souse extension which only requires 400K.

Dunno about retirement, but this is for marriage extensions. B400k for only 2 months prior to application.

The rule has not changed - it has always been 2 months for marriage. It is now official policy as well as being the requirement of Police Order 777/2551.

Retirement requires 60 days first application and 3 months thereafter.

Retirement requires 60 days first application and 3 months thereafter.

So, basically these two rules as cut and pasted in red from the immigration police order:

Marriage

(6) In case of marriage with a Thai lady, the husband who is an alien must have an average annual income of not less than 40,000 baht per month or a money deposit in a local Thai bank of not less than 400,000 baht for the past 2 months for expenses within a year.

Retirement

(4) Account deposit with a bank in Thailand of not less than 800,000 Baht as shown in the bank account for the past 3 months at the filing date of the application. For the first year, the applicant should have that amount in his bank account for not less than 60 days

There is no requirement or check that you spend that amount - just that you have it at start of each one year period. At times they have checked you were spending money from an account but no set amount and that seems to have, at least for most, stopped years ago. And the same fixed deposit type accounts have been accepted year on year.
