June 21, 201115 yr Bangkok has a very efficient and clean subway system, not to mention CHEAP. Try London and Paris and then tell me that you guys are not purely complaining for the sake of it. I really, really wonder why some of you guys stay here, unless you can't afford to live in your own country? It may be cheap for a foreigner on holiday, but for a local (and there are a fair few) on buttons, it is not cheap. A typical ride would cost say, Bht 25, about 60p? A single Zone 1 journey in London is what, about Gbp 4? Of course it's not right to compare in this respect, the costs of living and salaries in each and every country differs. I agree that while it's not cheap for a local on buttons, it's a lot more expensive in London On the other hand, the airport link is an absolute disaster, both in terms of pricing and logistics.
June 21, 201115 yr If the government is serious about reducing pollution, congestion and many other problems associated with large amounts of traffic they will subsidize or just stop the rate hikes. It should be a publicly owned transport system that the government can control.... but then again, the Thai government would just turn it all to corruption anyway so I guess it doesn't matter who runs it.... screwed...
June 21, 201115 yr There's a reasonable financial / business description on BMCL on this website http://bmcl.listedcompany.com/ It includes the Annual Report for 2010, plus other bits and pieces like current SET Stock Info. If PTP get's into the government and starts to work on a 20B flat rate, they will either have to buy out BMCL, or offer a compensation. It wouldn't be good for the economical climate if public companies are more-or-less told 'stuff it'
June 21, 201115 yr Subway supporter here. When they raise the fares I'd like to see everything rounded to the 5 baht just like the Skytrain. That would speed things up immensely.
June 21, 201115 yr So, any increase would take effect when? October? November? Or July? In Thailand, it happens when it happens. Don't hold your breath The article says the rate hike, if approved, will take effect July 3rd.
