zzaa never been to Surin, but after reading the post on the Farang Connection.

, don't know if I would really want to go. Burger King or not. Seems like a lot of unhappy campers there. Jim

Correct Jim! Surin is a dreary place. A good shot of Western commercialism sure would hit the spot.

The savages need to be introduced to civilisatiion and the splendors thereof.:jap:

Please tell me you're joking? Look what these fast food services have done to western society, the last thing we need to do is to introduce such things to the people here.

Surin is like any place on this earth... it's what you make it to be. There are a lot of westerners that work tirelessly behind the scenes in support of the local community here in Surin and I'm sure other places around Thailand as well.

It's good that people voice their opinions about the FC, but maybe people should direct those concerns and issues to the source so that things might change or maybe some people just need a reason to complain about anything. Be a part of the solution not the problem...

Why do we have to westernize everywhere we go...

This reminds me of a bumper sticker that my dad had on his car... "America... LOVE it or leave it" and the sign in his office... "America... if you don't like it... don't let the door hit you in the a** on the way out"

This really is a case of 'If you don't like it piss off back where you came from'

On the contrary, Endure. It's our responsibility as the superior and civilised types to nurture the traditional Oriental despot and remake the unfortunates into our image, yes?

A Burger King franchise in every upcountry provincial capitals. It's a start.

After we've secured and manipulated their diet, we surely can begin to model the peasantry populations as we see fit.

You're a bit serious, my friend.

I think have heard it all, now. mcd's and burger king represents civilisation?. What a diabolical thought.!!!! As if this country is not corrupt enough already. You want to introduce another layer of corruption?Food corruption I have already commented on the health problems of young boys in Bkk., who are so fat ,they cannot run. Because they patronise a mcd's on campus.mcd's ON campus?. How brilliant is that?. But the school makes money ,and that is all that matters. To the Chinese thais that run it. So, zz , please tell me you were being sarcastic, and I was not sensible enough to wig into it.

This appears to be a post designed to create negative replies. Bordering on troll like.Anybody who knows the history of the op's activity on this forum will know that he is attempting to be funny. FAIL.

Surin is not dreary place. The "campers" are not unhappy. There are quite a few local "farang" run bars/restuarants that offer good food, service and hospitality. Neighbouring Buriram also has it's fair share of places where "farangs" meet up and have a good time.

Obviously there will be occasions when things go a bit "pear shaped".

The OP is often wide of the mark when talking about the local "farang" community. Usually down to lack of first hand knowledge.

Why/how would my opinion be different?

Oh really..?? As in: [example inserted here] ?

Please, don't insult the intelligence of some that understand how an overwhelming percentage of Farang [individual and collective] circles keep their distance as such applies towards "support of local communities". It's the rare Farang fellow that actually involves and deeply interacts amongst the community. They tend to seek out their own and readily keep those ties close. All the while looking down on their beloved hosted community.

That's a cheap shot... at what point does the intelligence part kick in? blink.gif

I'll tell ya what though... How much notice do you need to give up one morning of your time, maybe about 4 hours?

He is actually the worst troll on a number of forms. Vacuous, ill-informed, subjective and out of touch with reality generally. A victim of a cocooned existence who definitely needs to get out more.

The demand for Burger Kings will be driven, not by Farangs but, by Thais.

This is evidenced elsewhere in Thailand and even the OP cannot stem the Thai's passion for convenience/junk food. KFC/McD/Pizza Hut/Burger King was a food fad waiting to happen in Thailand.

I guess on the plus side (pardon the pun)... maybe it's time to setup a weight-loss coaching business... anyone interested? cool.gif

As a business venture, a better money-spinner would be a "reverse-tanning machine" that lightens the skin rather than darkens.

An absolute winner in Thailand and would save the Thais a fortune in cream and powder.

So, a dark room with no food in it and an agreement not to eat the other members.

I read these posts and can't help but to think that there must be a good business opportunity in Surin. (not for me, though. I don't like to wander too far from the noise and pollution of the city.)

Isn't there any decent establishment there that caters to the farang palate? If I was so daring, I'd be tempted to open a smallish place that makes a really good burger, some tasty fish and chips, plus maybe one or two other items -- not a lot of selection but really good versions of the most popular dishes.
