HI,

When you are requesting a new retirement visa, do you need to have a new proof each time that you are making at least 65,000 Bath each month or can you take the same proof every time? Is it enough to show a bank statement where it is shown than at least 65,000 Bath is deposited each month? Would it be less complicated to simply keep 800,000 Baths in the bank?

Thanks,

You need a new letter of income from your Embassy each year for the retirement extension of stay. 800,000 baht in the bank it depends on you and what you want. Unless your Embassy ask for proof of your income when you request your letter you may not have to show any proof at immigration. But they can request proof of income even if you have the letter.

Using 800k in the bank is less complicated because you only need a copy of the savings account book and a confirmation letter from the bank (cost 100-300 Baht depending on the bank) for proof of finances.

While the bank is certainly cheaper the inconvenience is about the same. You must visit your home bank and they take several days if not more to get you the document.

With the embassy you get the proof of income immediately and if you are an American who can take advantage of the outreach program you can get it taken care of close to home.

So I think everything considered they are both equally a pain but much depends on how quickly you need the document.

Putting 800,000 Bath in the bank may not be a bad investment as the interest is relatively high and the currency is strong and may get stronger as the country economy develop..

Is it complicated to get your money out of Thailand if you wish to leave the country?

That would really be a "Poor Service Bank"

SCB Chaiyaphum not only takes 15-20 mins to issue the letter, often a refreshing glass of cool water is provided!

Timing about the same at SCB Klong 10, Thanyaburi, but usually no water but do have a nice chat with the SYTs there.

Sure a whole lot less expensive than the Embassy letter, baht 1,500 or so at the U.S. Embassy vs baht 200 at at SCB!

My experience is with the Bangkok Bank and it should be obvious that I do not use them for this "service" any longer. Several years in a row they gave me the same run-around and could not even provide a history of wire transfer deposits. I don't know if this is poor service or no service.
