BMA ready to handle flood expected to arrive in 10 days

BANGKOK, 2 August 2011 (NNT)-The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) says Bangkok is ready to combat flood in the wake of Nock Ten storm as the excessive water from the North is expected to flow towards the central region in a matter of two weeks.

According to BMA Deputy Governor Mr. Pornthep Techapaibul, a team of emergency staff is ready to work around the clock in anticipation of another flood in Bangkok. While many rivers in the North are overflowing, the water is expected to fill the Chao Praya River and reach the capital city in 10 days' time.

The BMA has organized a team of 700 officers and gathered equipment which could be useful in the rescue efforts. They will be ready to launch their operation nonstop if there is an emergency. The water is currently filling up the Chao Praya River at the rate of 1,760 cubic meters per second; the amount which the Deputy Governor said was under control.

He added that the impact of flood in Bangkok would also be mitigated by the barriers which were between 2.50-3 meters in height. The draining station as well as the work on unclogging several canals which was presently underway would certainly help reduce such an impact.

Meanwhile, temporary wooden bridges and sand bags have been constructed and prepared in the riverside communities of over 1,400 homes. 10 Floating toilets and medical necessities will be distributed in the event of floods.

How reassuring, what has changed in the last two weeks pray do tell?

Pattanakarn and Srinakarin were awash, told the mrs to sell the car and buy a boat, oh I see, just pump the excess into Khlong SanSaep.
