Is there an immigration dept. in Phuket to extend a 2 month visa (not sure if it is non-imm or tourist) for an extra month?

Yes, there is the main Immigration office in Phuket Town. If you have a 2 month visa then that's a tourist visa, can be extended for 1 month cost 1,900 baht. Not sure if the Immigration sub-office in Patong is still open or if they even process extensions.

Just Google 'phuket guesthouses' for lots of ideas. You will first need to decide what area you want to stay. Plenty of choice. Rates as low as 300 baht for fan room in low season.
