Urgent Flood Prevention Measures Required

THE INTERIOR MINISTER ORDERS URGENT FLOOD PREVENTION MEASURES ON THE MAIN ROADS TO SOUTHERN REGION

Following his visit to flooded areas in CHUMPHON (ชุมพร) Province, Minister of Interior KONGSAK WANTHANA (คงศักดิ์ วันทนา) has expedited the Department of Highways (DOH) and the Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) to study the flood prevention measures on all southern-bound routes.

Air Chief Marshal KONGSAK today visited CHUMPHON where he inspected the flood situation and listened to a briefing by CHUMPHON (ชุมพร) Governor PINAI ANANTAPONG (พินัย อนันตพงศ์). After the briefing, he has assigned the Department of Highways and the Department of Town and Country Planning to study holistic solutions to the inundation problem.

The Interior Minister has emphasized the prevention schemes on the PHETCHAKASEM (เพชรเกษม) and Asia (เอเชีย) highways which are the main routes linking southern provinces. He noted that any flood on the routes is likely to cause heavy impacts on the economy.

The Interior Minister then donated 500 survival kits to the flood victims in NAKATAM (นากะตาม) Tambon, THA-SAE (ท่าแซะ) District in CHUMPHON (ชุมพร) Province. Air Chief Marshal KONGSAK later examined the flood situation in PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN (ประจวบคีรีขันธ์) Province.
