herkycan Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 Can anyone recommend a decent thai boxing gym around the Lamai area? Not looking to be competitive and as 50+, just looking for a good gym to loosen up and try to get back into shape after too many years in an office. Cheers
macho123 Posted August 17, 2011 Posted August 17, 2011 wmc and pinyo both in lamai superpro in chaweng behind bangkok hospital all 3 good gyms
BigC Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 wmc, thai pinyo and jun muat thai. thai pinyo is good for fitness jun muay thai is good for people who like to sparr and fight. WMC i am not sure but i know if u want to fight for them they have a llot of contacts n the media and stuff and they can match u with someone that u have a chance n winning agianst specially for the first few fights. WMC part of the Wrold Muay thai council and has foang bosses the others are thai run. never been to WMC the other 2 are very goo just a bit randomly organised .
brzy Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 WMC located at the end of Lamai beach road, its busy and has a more western training approach than the Thai run gyms (more like a school). Pinyo Muay thai located on the ring road opposite New hut (just before Buddy resort) good for both beginners and fighters Jun Muay thai located on the road leading from the ring road opposite the petrol station, after the gym. Similar to Pinyo Price wise and times are similar (morning group session 07:00 - 09:00, later afternoon 16:30 - 18:30) 1o1's are available but book them prior as the gyms are busy atm. The Thai gyms will have you sparring from the get go but its not compulsory. I would advice maybe a few 1o1's to start with and then pad and bag work inc the 30 min "shadow boxing" warmups GL HF and welcome to Muay Thai
BigC Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 yes sparring is much better with thai run gym's because of their thai health and safty style mean they are not all arsey about rules, like mouth guards and this and that. as the thai's say. up 2 u. which i like. never been to WMC but i know they hosted contender asia. since then there business for the gym went through the roof. not always a good thing when a gym is too busy, need a healthy balance. a gym with no people is crap. then too many people means u have to fight for space. choose wisely Daniel son and may the force be with you. i am off to fight against the imperial star fleet now. laters!!!
herkycan Posted August 19, 2011 Author Posted August 19, 2011 Thanks for the replies guys, all very good information indeed. Think I will do a recce to all the recommended gyms but the thai run ones sound like the best bet. Maybe you'll see my picture on the side of the hated MUAY THAI MUAY THAI trucks one day, lol...(is there a seniors category?) Cheers

Moouan Posted September 5, 2011 Posted September 5, 2011 Juns Muay Thai probably has the best reputation on the Island with instruction from a guy who has "done it " at the highest level. If you just want to lift weights and do some cardio Ultra Bodies Fitness Gym is the best on the Island. Thanks for the replies guys, all very good information indeed.
