BORAI DISTRICT IN TRAT IS BUILDING A 'GEMS TOWN' TO REVIVE OLD WAY OF LIFE AND PROMOTE TOURISM

Borai (บ่อไร่) District of Trat Province is building a 'gems town' (เมืองอัญมณี) to revive the ruby-producing way of life in the locality and to promote tourism.

Borai District Chief KITTISAK TOMARASAK (กิตติศักดิ์ โตมรศักดิ์) said construction of the 'gems town' will be completed next year. This would revive the traditional way of life in Borai District, where the villagers used to extract and refine rubies. Mr. KITTSAK said this would help promote tourism and generate income for locals.

The district is also planning to publicize 2-3 new waterfalls located in the district. As for the temporary border pass in Ban Mamuang (บ้านมะม่วง), the pass is currently under construction. Once finished, it is expected to facilitate easier travels.

The Borai District Chief said the district will have more readiness in the tourism aspect next year, and can become another famed tourism site in Trat Province no lesser than Chang (ช้าง) Island and other provincial tourism destinations.

Then they can arrest and fine the tourists who go there and may happen to buy a few trinkets because they don't have the 'appropriate' visas!![
