HUMAN SECURITY MINISTER WATANA WILL TODAY INSPECT THE PROGRESS OF BAAN MANKHONG PROJECT IN NAKHON SAWAN

Minister of Social Development and Human Security Watana Muangsook (วัฒนา เมืองสุข) will be visiting Nakhon Sawan Province today where he will monitor the progress of the Baan Mankhong Project, initiated by the government to rid the country of slum areas by 2008.

Nakhon Sawan has about 53 congested communities, mostly situated on state-owned land such as the Habour Department, as well as on private sector land. The government has already been introducing several forms of development to the areas including promoting people’s savings, improving the environment, providing occupational training and establishing community welfare projects.

About 10 previous congested communities have already joined the Baan Mankhong Project and several others more will join in later.

During the visit, Minister Watana will witness a signing ceremony for an agreement to allow the Ministry to rent some pieces of land for the construction of Baan Mankhong Project. The new lot will benefit 135 families at WAT KHAO CHOM KHIRI BANPHOT (วัดเขาจอมคีรีบรรพต) and PHANAWAN (พนาวัลย์) communities. Once completed, the two communities will become pilot projects for other communities in the province to follow suit.
