Foreign Monarchs Accept Invitations To Celebrate

MORE THAN 10 FOREIGN MONARCHS HAVE ACCEPTED TO JOIN THE CELEBRATIONS ON THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF HM THE KING'S ACCESSION TO THE THRONE

Monarchs from more than 10 countries will attend the grand celebrations to mark the 60th anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol’s ascension to the Throne during June 12 to 13 next year.

Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra said this morning the Thai Government has already extended invitations to foreign monarchs of 28 countries to participate in the celebrations in Thailand. He personally handed the invitations to some countries like Belgium and the United Kingdom where he recently paid official visits.

According to the Prime Minister, some foreign governments have given positive replies to the invitations. A number of committees have also been set up to ensure that related royal ceremonies and celebrations will be held smoothly and in grandeur.

The Cabinet last week entrusted Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam and Interior Minister Kongsak Wanthana to see to it that the celebration flag will be properly flown side by side with the national flag at official places nationwide. The celebration flag is in yellow, the colour of His Majesty, and bears a logo designed by the Ministry of Culture for the occasion. The private sector and the general public will be encouraged to fly the flags, beginning on December 1, 2005 until the end of next year.

The Cabinet also instructed the restoration of deteriorated monasteries nationwide, especially those built for more than 60 years, as a tribute to His Majesty the King.
