we are going on the 30th october.

Only asked as there's a pickup truck of us going mid sept and would have given you a lift.

ok thanks anyway, just need to know if getting to surat airport at 3.15pm for a 4.05pm flight is too late!

That would leave absolutely no space for any error, I wouldn't take the risk and take a ferry earlier.

Agreed. But no idea about the bus timetable from Donsak I am afraid.

it could be, that they wait for that Lomprayah ferry, which is actually scheduled for that that flight. Call and ask Air Asia.

Other option would be to take an earlier Seatran ferry and from Don Sak port by bus to Surat Thani town and from there a taxi.

Panthip's airport bus is leaving early > 09:30 from Nathon

If you are not making an international connection & just visiting Bangkok , check out the Nok Air website (they fly to Don Muang from Surat)

All-in price 2,300 b per pax , the deal includes the boat , transfer , etc and as you check-in at Nathon Pier the flight WILL wait for the bus as the airline issue the thru-ticket from Nathon rather than just issuing a seperate boat & plane ticket..

That sux though, you need to leave Nathon at 12.45 (let alone when you need to leave your house in order to make this ferry) so you can make a 15.55 flight that arrives 17.05 at Don Muang? That looks like a minimum of 5 hrs travel time, if not more for 2.300,-THB!

For around 3.600,-THB I can get a ticket to BKK with my BKK air resident card, saves me a lot of time! Enough time savings to not even consider either Nok Air or Air Asia from the mainland. Considering 3.6K is a lot of money for such a distance, it's still hardly worthwhile saving 1.300,-THB for the loss of time, imho, only If you have a whole day to spend and aren't on a business time schedule.

Over to you BKK Air opposition fraction.

At first glance - you are correct.

However, at busy times, it is double this - sometimes almost treble. Bangkok Airways web-site does not make fare comparison easy.

I have friends/customers who have tried to travel recently and the only flights available are in the 9,000 - 12,000 baht per sector price range.

This is not an exact science - airlines are clever at looking cheap but ending up being not so cheap. However, circa 24,000 baht return to Bangkok - Air Asia is looking VERY good. I would put up with a 5 hour journey at that price. Everything in between is a compromise.

Not everyone who lives here can get a resident card. Renters rarely have their name in the house book! Conditions for the card are

  1. Must be a registered Samui or Phangan resident. The applicant's name must appear in the House Registration for a period not less than 12 months before the application date
  2. Must be a hotel/business employee in Samui and working at a senior management level such as Managing Director, General Manager or Director
  3. Must be a business owner in Samui for at least 6 months prior to the application date and the business is still operating
  4. Must be a government official in Samui
  5. Must NOT be a Sukhothai or Trat Privilege Card member

Tropicalevo, 9-12K per sector is outrageous!

Agreed - but those are the prices posted on the web site! :o

If those are the only flights that you can get from Bangkok - the 5 hour journey via a mainland airport is worth considering.

Fully agree, or even better, fly to Phuket with Air Asia for around 2K!

Last Year I used Air Asia, 2 pax, I drove to Surat Airport in my own car, all in return flight and transport cost 7,700 Baht, I if wanted to fly by Bangkok Airways on the same day best return flight options available cost 17,000 Baht, It may have taken 5 hours to Bangkok and 4 1/2 Hours back as opposed to a realistic 3 hours each way using Bangkok airways but 9,300 Baht in my pocket to spend in Bangkok more than compensated, in my mind, the extra 3 1/2 hours travelling time.

Obviously not everybody has the time to travel via Surat and when I flew to the UK I used Bangkok Airways due to convenience but if your schedule allows the Surat options is definitely worth considering in my opinion.
