LOWER HOUSE IS IN SUPPORT OF A NEW ESTABLISHMENT OF RUBBER AUTHORITY OF THAILAND

The House of Representatives is in support of a plan to create a new state enterprise for rubber matters, which will independently oversee issues regarding para-rubber.

The House of Representatives yesterday evaluated the draft for an act to establish the Rubber Authority of Thailand in the form of a state enterprise, proposed earlier by the Cabinet. The draft calls for the dissolution of the rubber plantation organization and the rubber plantation fund, as well as the Department of Agriculture's rubber research institute. The new entity will be assigned the task of promoting Thailand to become a center for para-rubber industry, in addition to the tasks of providing support to rubber farming in the country and to look for markets for the products.

House members voiced great support for the creation of a Rubber Authority, saying that this would allow independence from other agencies. However some House members viewed that the government should also assign the issue of rubber as a national agenda, in addition to the establishment of the new authority.
