Hello all! I'm new here, hope to get along, I already can say I LOVE THAILAND, so that's a good start! Here is the thing: I'm 22 and decided to move to Thailand with my best friend, probably for the girls, the good weather and the freedom. Anyway, I run a small eBay business, so I will need to receive and send parcel on a daily basis, here are my questions guys:

I work on the interenet so here are few questions:

1. Does Koh Phangan have post office?

2. Does DHL/FEDEX work in Koh Phangan?

3. Do I have the permission to open a bank account and put money into it and receive a credit card?

About the location:

4. What beach should I choose for most parties and girls? It's Haad rin right?

5. How much is the rental for a small house in a good place?

6. What are the expenses +- for a bike per month?

7. We eat only Rice, Pasta, Potatoes, Chicken Breast, Eggs, Vegetebles and fruits. how much is 1kg of chicken breasts, 12 eggs and 1 KG of Rice?

8. Are there parties everyday? Are there tourists all the year?

9. Which place is better for this lifestyle, phuket, Koh phangan or koh samui? What beaches are the most preferable for crowded area?

10. Will 30,000BAHT would be enough for me and my friend?

Many thanks guys!

There is no currency on Koh Phangan so you'd best buy some chickens and bring them with you to barter.

Here's a pic to get you started.

Enjoy your stay! smile.gif

Please I would be very happy to receive answers since i hate my life here everything is pricey and boring like a routine, everyday is the same shit. I would love to live in Thailand, just waiting for the answers mates.

Thanks again.

4: Haad Rin (but no house for rent there)

5: 5000-10.000

6: 3000 baht/month for rent, 150 baht full tank

7: Chicken breast 100-120. 1 egg 3-4. 1 kg rice 20-35

8: Koh Phangan

9: 30.000 baht/month for 2 people? Definitely no, for one, maybe

Here goes ...

What Visa will you be using to stay here? How many people will you employ in your business for the Work Permit and where will you go every 90 days when you have to leave the country?

Is THB 30,000 for 2 per week, month or year?

I am sure you have read about the Post Offices here and how you cannot always be sure you get all your parcels? Not to mention the bills that Customs send you for goods received from overseas right?

Hi, thanks

32,000 BAHT per month for both of us, but we don't buy clothes, don't eat outside... we'll go for a beer or a smoke at the amsterdam bar every night, but it's very cheap, so i can't understand why 32k would not be enough. my country is x3-4 times expensive and i spend only 40,000BAHT inc. food, parties, every weekend, a bike and rent.

- I work by my own, it's a very simple job so i do not need people to work- that means i will not receive a work permit?

- After 90 days, I will visit Laos and back to Thailand, is that possible?

How long should I stay out of Thailand after the 90 days?

- Are you serious about the post offices thing?!?!? that screw all the plan :/ Is there other good place in thailand where they take care of packages and will not Customs charge me?

Many thanks again.

Laos is a long way from here .... it is going to cost a fair amount to get there.

Any form of work here requires a work permit. It is not something you buy from the post office. Working without one is illegal. Don't want to sound harsh, but they are the rules. Suggest a read of the pinned threads in other parts of this forum may help understand that position, as too about the visas.

If you are exporting/importing for business purposes, then Customs have every right to be interested in what you are doing. Sorry. It really is not that simple as bunging it in the mail and getting the money like you do at home.

You are a young guy with ambitions to take all our girls, did you really think we wouldn't put up a fight???

your country is not more expensive, it's a mixture, some things are cheaper others aren't. Visa issues could be a problem, if you want to stay here for years. Don't forget insurance and money for the unexpected, which will come for sure.

Ebay would be considered working and you would need a work permit, you may or may not get caught. But if you do its expensive.

You will need to do visa runs, its not that close from Koh Phangan.

The post office is the post office, some parcels may go missing, some may not. Its a crap shoot that everyone in the entire country takes. There is no customs office that won't charge you, all intl mail comes through Bangkok and that is where the duty for incoming items are set.

Koh Phangan is not a cheap place to live.

You need to go to the visas forum and do a bit more investigation on things before making any major decisions.

Audioslave, I've been through this process. The difference between thinking 'That's what I'm gonna do' and the reality of doing it can be pretty big.

But, it's possible if you think it through. There's loads of expats here and they made it right?

Can you not have someone mail your parcels from home? Keep it as it now and avoid the hassle here. As mentioned the PO is crap and import duty would be a mess for you.

Best of luck to you kid.

OP my apologies as I thought you were just trolling.

I suggest you take a look at Cambodia. Far easier on both the visa front and your wallet. Not sure about Post Offices or DHL there though.

Best of luck!

u need permission from the head of the 5 families.

If u want to be made then u must proff yourself to the family.

... we'll go for... a smoke at the amsterdam bar every night,

... then you'd better include -within your budget- some petty cash for the BIB... Just in case of emergency. cool.gif

Sometimes the BIB go for a break-in at "that" Bar (Coffee Shop?), catching customers smoking pot, but don't touching the owners selling it to the farangs. Like we use to say: TIK (This Is KohPhangan)

Hi Audioslave...

I think some users have already given you some good feedback. I've been on KPG for about 2 months now and to add to what has already been said:

DHL does not deliver here, it's outside of their coverage area. However, packages will still arrive. They are transferred to national carrier EMS in Bangkok and do take some more time to get here. I ordered an Apple computer from Shanghai and it took about 8 business days.

30,000 THB would be difficult for two people to live on every month but not impossible. It sounds like you have a pretty low-price lifestyle and I would think that if you were doing it in your country you could do it here. The cost of rent is low but food prices not so much. If you cook yourself or only eat at the cheapest restaurants, it's possible you could make it work. I would think that 30,000 THB for ONE person would be a low budget, but I guarantee you there are lots of people living here on a lot less. However, what might be challenging in regard to your budget are the visa runs. If you are wanting to be here for several months you will need to do visa runs and these can set you back 10,000 THB per run for a double entry visa (giving you six months in the country). Be sure to get a tourist visa before you leave your country instead of arriving here and getting a stamp.

In terms of girls, if you are looking for western girls who are in their 20s and partygoers, Haad Rin is indeed the best place to go. Haad Rin is not such an attractive place to live, however, so you might consider living closer to Thong Sala (about 15 min. on motorbike) and going to party in Haad Rin in the evenings. There's a nice selection of cute party going girls who are looking for fun, in my two months here I can vouch for that ;-).

If "girls" means Thai prostitutes, you'll have a better selection in Koh Samui. Your budget won't go a long way.

If you have specific questions, feel free to send me a private message.

Good luck!

the western party goers are usually tourists which mean that they come and they go.

if u want a long term bird u would be better off looking inthe dive shops. western crumpet with work visa's though they are normally taken. there are some nice wester birds working in property business. easy to get intouch with them. just book an oppointment.

if u want a nice thai lady then u can look in pizza resturants. macdonalds. some of those women are fit and can't wait to get out of their uniforms
