FYI:

Did a hop across the border a few days ago. Cambodia had fingerprint scanners set up incoming but were non operational. Outbound to Thailand they were running and I as well as everyone else was forced to submit all fingers and thumb.

Attempt to shake me down for B100 - I just smirked and asked the guy....thought this was over by now? Turned to the guys behind the glass - Som visa mooey! Visa returned no issues in 5 mins.

How much did you pay for the Cambodian visa?

US20 of course. Never, ever more - since Cambodian border opened.

It was pretty apparent I was just doing a border runner - possibly hence the shakedown. But there was no reason given for the B100. As if well, I will ask for the money and if you are stupid enough to give it to me, good for me!

Definitely well done, the main reason i don't turn my three monthly visa run into a three or four day break in Cambodia is the blatant thieving that goes on at the borders, anything up to 1300 baht ($40) has been asked of me in the past and i have heard that those who turn up at a border with an e-visa are also given a hard time,

definably not the case about my experience with E visa , it is true cost 25 $ (INTERNET paye by credit card , no problem at border and very quick , however i am talking about AIRPORT border passing , not koh kong where the scams are knowed to be .....

E Visa totally sucks and you are at high risk by both submitting your cc info over the Internet and further to the E-Visa site. Don't take my word for it - even Gordon Sharpless thinks so. What part of giving your cc to an anonymous Cambodian makes you warm and fuzzy? It is also 25 dollars so I'd give that a miss especially when I can take a B7 bus to the embassy. But there simply is no need. You do this out of fear.

The border/s with Cambodia have always been money grubbing. I too have cringed making this visa run, it was always a gauntlet. I have even done the run to Ban Laem a few times. I have never bothered with Koh Kong, that just looks like pure mafia.

Most people front up unprepared and that is there downfall. Next, they are in a hurry. Next they speak no Thai or Khmer. Finally, they have no system.

The border is now by and large free and clear of hucksters and the ones that are left, just speak a bit of Thai and if you want them gone instantly tell them in Khmer, no thanks don't want help. No one hassles you on the Cambodian side. Just head for the yellow bldg opposite side of road and have US20 in hand as well as one photo.

Champken - One of many tricks you have to have in your bag is swagger. You have to have all your ducks in a row and then you must know the routine. If you do not know the routine, ACT like you know the routine. Be willing to wait them out. No one does this. Its really stupid, because there is no wait.

Last trip over I met a german guy that paid B1500 for special services. He rec'd zero special services. It all just went into the cops pockets and he even told me that he saw one cop literally put 750 into his pocket. he was not overstay and I repeatedly asked him what would account for this fee/fine. Nothing. They asked, he gave. These were Thai's.

So how is that going to affect Pattaya visa run company customers? No requirement to physically cross the border, but you can just go up to the duty free ( without passport ) if you wish.

Pattaya does not use Aran as a checkpoint but I would think that everyone will sooner or later have to go through processing. It may already be instituted and not reported as Pattaya is such a mug magnet.

These Pattaya visa run buses must be down to a trickle by now anyway.

HAH - David, I did not see this prior. You lost 20 minutes of your life and five bucks.

You can get a visa in PNH airport for US20 in ten minutes.

:D funny reply , i am very happy i do not trouble myself about 20 minutes i loose of my life as i am not on terminal desaese yet

(:jap: thx to the creator who ever that me be :jap: ),

also happy i do not need th $ counting that sharply......;:whistling:

for me in SEA count efficiance and security......

Every ones choice , would only point out that at pp airport all bad storys about Cambodia (there at least :ermm:) looks a fairy tales..;

not understand people take the risk to do simpel border runs by themselfs as for the 2000 bath i pay forer those one they are worth the money for a troublesone journey even stop in restaurant is there 5banlaem = very good border passing B)

This trip Airasia for 3540 bath for me so good that i booked for the expiering time for my double Tr visa in approx 6 months Airasia again , this time for 2570 bath :D

Strang that by all reports on Thai visa seems i happen to be a rare one who gett A double TR visa in full PP Thai embassy problem ;)

As working in my Country's buraucrasy gov. before i know how much whe like to see wel documented applications and stamps , that is als why i put a Thai letter with several signatures from the office of Thai GOV. owned building stating my 6 months condo lease , so that wipes out the story they not like long staying on TR visas .....;;) so let he guessing for there reasons continue ....YOU KNOW T.I.T :D

I used to do the border run and when it got to 1500 Baht+ I decided to use the e-visa.

Maybe no bar code on the e-visa?

3 times with e-visa now. Cheap, quick and hassle free.
