Use them as preference between CNX & BKK.

Cheaper, usually on time, free drink & snack on board, staff more friendly & helpful than AirAsia and they use Don Mueang in BKK which is much easier in & out of town.

Would I recommend them?

Yes, for sure!!

Flew to BKK Wed & returned to HKT yesterday. Excellent all over. On time, courteous, new planes (finally); 737-300 with the winglets superseding the old MD80s. Very much recommended.

I flown from Phuket to Bangkok (DMK) in July with Orient Thai. Service was good, plane was MD-81 from 1992 but all in all I would fly with this company anytime for 990 THB one way.

Unless this airline have demonstably improved their operating practices I would avoid at all costs.

After any incident of this nature do you not think that the DCA (Department of Civil Aviation) & NTSB (National Transport Safety Board) will not be scrutinising every aspect of the airline?

There's a good chance that Orient Thai now have better practices than most of it's rivals due to this.

If an airline is completely grounded, which they were, then they have to make lots of changes and improve everything before they would be allowed to operate again.

There are many airlines that have had crashes and accidents. Some fatal some not. Some could have been avoided (in this case should have been) and again, some not.

How much faith do you have in the Thai DCA?

Avoid at all costs. It's a complete joke of an airline in the industry due to very poor safety and management practices, they have a huge amount of staff turnover.

My missus used to have a kick at the Orient thai, so i had to book the Nok or the Air Asia. Once I found a good deal on their website, comparing to the other 2 it was too cheap. So I booked it. Guess what my missus said, she wanted to use it again and again. So she likes it. They serve some snacks and drinks on board as well.

Orient Air operates 3 737-300 modified with winglets. Age: 25,6 years

Their 737's are former Continental Airlines (delivery date: 17/03/1986)

Always amazed at the risks some will take to save a few Baht.

Phuket crash

Charter plane nearly hits Tokyo Tower

Then there was the time the flight engineer was kicked off for insisting safety practices were followed and the captain flew off without a full flight crew.

They reformed as Orient Thai after their main subsidiary One-Two-Go was banned from the EU and lost it's Thai certification.

Enjoy the free snacks.

My life is worth more than a saving of a few hundred baht. I flew this shabby airline once, and as it creaked and groaned its way down the runway I vowed never again. Even the bloody dunny seat fell off!

Agreed. I would only use them if there was no was no other choice and i was desperate. Only the winglets are new, the rest of the aircraft is old. That link earlier tells the story. Only the "influential" owner stops them from being grounded.

I had a nightmare experience with Orient Thai Airlines. Orient Thai Airlines sucks. Kamollaya Tanimkhan and Chalidu Runpraphan must be fired. They are really rude. They did nothing to help us when we had a car accident and arrived 30 minutes before the plane was to depart. They would not let us on board and made us pay for new tickets. They said "no manager". How unprofessional! We just had a car accident, and they did nothing to help us. They are thieves! I want my money back. After 24 tickets they should show some respect!

I wonder how many airlines around the world hear that story from people who show up after the gate closes? And what can they ask you to do to show as evidence? Can you suggest an answer to their dilemma? whistling.gif
