Ive got a 77 ford escort, I bought some mag wheels for it about 9 months ago. I had to fit spacers so as to accept the bolt pattern, problem is it gets the shakes at about 70km / hr. Im looking to ditch the mags and just get the correct wheels for the car. I have looked all over Phuket without luck. It has been suggested to me to change the hubs or get an engineer to re drill the bolt patterns, problem is i dont want to be left high and dry if someone screws the job up.

I guess my question is...where can i get some 4x108s??????

The Probs not the Wheels mate, get the front end checked out. Perhaps its the spacers, now for 4.5 J rims they do multi fittings. Spoon or Warpy can tell you good, im a bit out of touch these days

Thanks 'star :)

Lenso now make some 4x108's, but the range is limited and not many shops will keep them in stock.

However, what you're describing are the classic symptoms of a significant offset change (i.e. wider track width). The solution to this is an on-car balance - balancing the rims off the car just won't do it. Take the car to a tire shop that specializes in heavy goods vehicles for this. Normal charge is around 300B per wheel, and it takes 30-45 mins per side. No need to do the rears..

Your spacers are probably causing a balance problem if all was fine before. Had this once and l found a garage that had a setup that balanced the wheels on the car :). BUT it was in the UK. ;)

I v got 4 Mugen in my garage, dual 4 bolt patterns, one fit Jazz/yaris, the other one no idea, bought from Manit Center max

7 x 15 in polished alu and some white. feel free to bring your own tools and come and try :)

edit went downstairs to have a look, it says 100 and 114 at the backside. Usually offset is expressed as ET, but not here, only says 67 in one place, could be offset

I would have thought 4x108 rims to be fairly easy to source, the problem though is most will be FWD rims so the offset will be <deleted> for a RWD vehicle (will need spacers).

I remember my Old Dad having his X.K. 150 re cut on the rims.He came home more Purple Faced than usuall, the wobble had gone along with half the tread. Smile Smile. He was worse than Thai Cruze with that thing,he never shut up..Little Grin.

If bought in Thailand, the chances are the dual patterns are 4 x 100mm and 4 x 114.3mm.. Tape measure can verify pretty quickly though :)

Edit: appears that's the case :D

A good idea would be to stop alongside one of the road side shops selling second had ally wheels. Ask the guy if he has any that will fit your car ? he will probably take one of your wheels off and try some of his. I have had some very good deals with these guys as they will take your wheels in exchange.

Its a 77 Escort mate it needs a good set of wheels dont go down the standard wheel route it will look awful :)

I got it checked by about a dozen different mechanics, the spacers are too heavy, I put new shocks on it...wheel balanced the lot...when i put my old stock wheels on there minus the spacers its smooth as

Can you send me a photo of them?...I think 15inch might be a bit too big, I was thinking 14s might be better for an escort

Really hard to source. Even tried Australia, England and America...near on impossible. I was hoping someone knew a place in BKK. I would even happily get custom jobs

at 100 and 114 they wont fit, and ET 67 doesnt fit either, expecting you to need ET 0-20

continue with my plan to buy a 2012 City in white to use the rims on, the 599k baht one with steel rims ;)

Iam from Australia, 4x108 rims are very easy to find, the problem is the offset as I mentioned above. On my Cortina I fitted SAAB rims.

Import some minilites from the UK.

Yep, originals if you can fund it. :D

Try these if you don't want to spend the money on Minilites;

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Escort-RS-2000-Mexico-MK2-Alloy-Wheels-x-4-/180727643823?pt=UK_CarParts_Acc_Wheels_tyres_Rims_Car_Wheels_ET&hash=item2a1434feaf#ht_3495wt_1141

Minilites are the business though if you want it to look good. Forget about 14's or 15's. Make it period style and everyone will love the look.

I would never in a million years have thought finding wheels for an old Ford would be a problem ?

In this case I would try the UK then, ebay maybe, if you really get stuck then I have friends back in the UK who have a Mk 1 Escort Mexico I could try to contact them as Im sure they have access to many parts as their car has been built to a very high near original standard.

Good luck.
