Andriod Advice

Featured Replies

I'm looking to buy a 7" Android and would like some advice on the best model and costs for such. Below are the main functions I would need:

- Phone and email

- USB port, so I can save files from a computer then send them as attachments.

- Downloading PDF files.

- PDF reader

I think the only option you have for those specs in Thailand is the HTC flyer. Be careful of the 3g specs though, might not support 850 spectrum. Theres also the original Galaxy tab but I dont think it has a standard usb port.

Thanks for the help. Seems I'm looking at a pretty high end machine. Is it the USB port that is pushing up the price? What are other options for importing files?

Samsung tab 7. does 900mhz so AIS connection for 2G/3G. has usb 2.0 and proven product 14.990b

Actually I was hoping to just slip in my SIM card which already has internet. Wouldn't this work?

You can still import files via USB (it just has a non-standard port, which means you have to use the cable they supply). The Galaxy tab comes in WIFI and 3G variations. Last time I looked the 3G one was 14,000 baht, maybe it will have dropped a bit now the 10.1 is here.

It would on the 14,xxxb unit but not on the one shown as that is wifi only.

What phone do you have now and what network?

I find that i carry my phone with me which is android and capable of wifi tethering (turning the phone into a 2g/3g wifi hotspot) so i intend saving the money and just getting the wifi only tab.

I currently have a Nokia E71 on AIS. The internet speed is adequate, but typing and reading on the small screen is frustrating. I'm away several days a week and need to answer emails. There's no land line or wi-fi facilities, so the Andriod seems the best option.

I thought there was a model for around 7k which you could just insert the SIM and use for phone and internet?

It sounds like you need a 10,000 baht net book rather than a tablet.

That may be OK, but I'm not familiar with the models. I like the 7" because of it's size, it can be held in one hand, used on the train, car etc.
