Ok To Go To Bangkok This Weekend?

Featured Replies

I am in Chon Buri was thinking of heading up to Bangkok for a couple days just to chill out and take a break from here. I was worried about the flood waters etc. Is the main city having problems, will I have any problems driving up? Is it raining hard every day there? What is the situation?

Thanks

You should send your question to the Science and Technology Minister. I am sure he would give you a valid response.

If you believe the media, central bangkok will be fine. However, it doesn't take much for that to go south quickly. Personally, I'd wait until next weekend.

I am doing the oposite - I'm getting out for the weekend. Just in case. It means letting my home "undefended" however if flood waters start coming in my door then there is very little I can do about it, only watch - so I would rather take me and my fmaily out of harms way, and avoid personal discomfort or danger.

Personally I'd steer clear of here for now. You may get lucky, but it's not something I'd risk my weekend for.

If you are coming to the central area of Bangkok then you'll have no problems.Everything and everybody is operating as normal. I have been travelling around town today and had no problems whatsoever.

Just drove (got driven) round trip today, BKK, Exchange Tower at Asoke to Sattahip and back with no problems and only one wet patch on the highway.

Way to go helping the guy out with his question and for giving him a valid response, good thing he didn't send it to you!

Maybe check this map out, specifically the top, left-most tab: "3 - 5 day flood forecast". Note the "red" areas, which represent the potential for flooding. Maybe best to wait a while?

How can the op think he can chill out in the mayhem of bkk when he lives in Chonburi?

Thanks for that URL.. had a look and passed it onto the girlfriend.. but both of us are still a little concerned.. I'll be arriving in BKK on the 29th, staying at a hotel near the airport for 2 nights, then we're heading to Hua Hin (via car).. I assume all will be ok for the stay in BKK.. but not sure about the trip to Hua Hin, even though it is to the south. Not sure how to know about if the highway will be closed. Any websites that would give such information? Even Thai websites that the girlfriend can investigate? TIA.

Don't assume that hotels around the airport will be safe. The map I saw (sorry it was hard copy in a newspaper) had the area east of BKK as the next spot to be flooded heavily. The authorities will work hard to protect the airport itself and the (high level) road connections from Bangkok, but my guess is the hotels down in the paddy around there will quickly become inaccessible if the floodwaters are diverted to the east of Bangkok' which the media seem to be forecasting. I travelled from Suvanabhum to Don Meuang on Thursday and the only flooding I saw from the high level highway was in the area of On Nut around Suvanabhum - that's the area where many of the transit hotels are located
