naomisri Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 My family are arriving from the UK for Christmas and New Year. We would like to go out for a meal somewhere that feels Christmassy, but that still has decent food. It would have to be somewhere teenager friendly. Normally I don't celebrate much with my Thai family, but it would be nice to celebrate all of us together this year. I'm pregnant and don't have an oven so cooking for everyone would be nearly impossible. So any suggestions on where to book for our meal? Resort/restaurant suggestions please...

limbos Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 Dear Don, That's assuming that money is no issue.
chelford67 Posted November 13, 2005 Posted November 13, 2005 The Elephant & Castle in Ban Rak, Excellent food and a nice friendly atmosphere, they love Christmas, and making the local kids Xmas's special with an annual party......so should be Christmassy enough for you... Mark, John & Oh, are your hosts.... Their food is always good and they do not scrape on portions, very reasonable prices.
limbos Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 You think it's reasonable to charge 50Baht for a portion of white rice as take away for my baby? That was the last time I visited that place.

The roast dinners are excellant. Mmmmm

My family and I have eaten there many many times,in their old location too and always found the prices very reasonable. I have never purchased a portion of white rice and can not comment. My views are from my own experience, which were all very good and satisfying
suegha Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 We went to the Elephant & Castle for a roast dinner a few weeks ago and it was excellent! Loads of food, lashings of gravy, yorkshire pud, roast spuds, heaven! And all very reasonably priced. I would recommend it to anyone. We were on Samui for 3 weeks and went there once as we normally eat Thai, however, if you wanted a bit of 'home' go check their menu, it's full of familiar favourites. Oh yeah, staff were very good too...
limbos Posted November 14, 2005 Posted November 14, 2005 Womble and Chelford, Been to the old location and the new many times, up till that moment. Was eating something there and my wife called if I could take some white rice home for the baby, why bother and go somewhere else if you're in a restaurant already? However charging 50Baht for a bit of white rice was seriously taken the piss IMHO and did not go down very well with me. Hence I pass on this location. You guys can stop defending the food in there since I never commented on that. On a sidenote, In Koh Tao an Irish Pub, Dirty Nellys, has opened and the best English food ever in Thailand is to be had there, again IMHO.
Rooo Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 Naomisri, Have you given catering at home a thought?
naomisri Posted November 16, 2005 Author Posted November 16, 2005 Great advice, thanks. I will have a look into all the places you mentioned.
naomisri Posted November 16, 2005 Author Posted November 16, 2005 Rooo - as I mentioned in my original post, I don't have an oven and I'm going to be pretty heavily pregnant so I think it will be more or less impossible to do it at home. I would love to be able to cook, but it might just be easier to go out! No washing up to do later too...
Rooo Posted November 16, 2005 Posted November 16, 2005 I meant caterers from outside , they prepare cook clean the works.
naomisri Posted November 18, 2005 Author Posted November 18, 2005 Getcha Any idea on companies that provide that kind of service?
