Recommendations For Hospitals In Cm

What are your recommendations for hospitals in Chiang Mai? I need a biopsy on a gland. Ram seems overpriced, McCormick seems to be reasonable in terms of quality and price?

Then I've read something about a place called 'sripat'? (I may have got that name slightly wrong)

Am looking for a Ear,nose, throat specialist

Also, anybody know how long biopsy results take? or roughly how much?

Any input would be much appreciated

Cheers

Sripat Building is part of Maharaj Hospital, known as Suan Dok Hospital by locals. It is supposedly staffed by doctors who teach at CMU. The standard of care from what I've found, is equivalent to Ram. Any medication you get tends to be less expensive. Not sure about surgery prices.

Howdy MJA.

Have you tried the search function in the upper right corner of the screen ? Make sure it's set to scan only the CM subforum, and you should find some recommendations for where to get a biopsy done - I could swear that was a thread topic here in the last month.

Sripat is at Suan Dok, by the way. I'm happy with them. Navigating your way to there at the giant hospital complex is a bit of a challenge, but once you know your way you're set.

Another small recommendation: Maybe try editing or have a mod do it for you if not possible, and add "Need a Gland Biopsy" to your subtitle. Those keywords will catch the eyes of any and all who have anything to contribute, and probably grab you a few more replies than leaving it inside the actual thread's body. THere are alot of helpful people out there who usually chime in when they see a thread of serious and meaningful concern.

Good luck ! Hope you're fine !

All big hospital doctors incl ram have their own private clinics that they work in when not working in main hospital job,The cost is much cheaper,If you ever go to see any doctor in any hospital ask do you have a private clinic,Most will answer yes.even you get treated at ram or other hospital you can ask the doctor can you buy the drugs outside as much cheaper,if you don't ask then they will not tell you.Thats inside info

I don't think the hospital is as important as the doctor. Find a highly recommended doctor and go to his/her office or hospital. You could pop into GP's - Dr. Tawachai or Dr. Morgan and see who they recommend. As a starting point and it will give you a chance to be recommended to a specialist based on your symptoms.

Don't go hospital hopping, it's pot luck.

Good luck.

i just had surgery there and the price was less than 10% of the same procedure in the us(about 80% of what was quoted at ram). navigating the building is easy and you will be well taken care off.my first choice after trying and looking at others.

Agreed that was my first thought. What does your doctor recommend.

For example I am crippled for life I know what the problem is. When I wanted to see if it had got worse I asked my doctor to recommend a specialist. Being as I trust my doctor I felt the recommendation was for a qualified doctor.

The Doctor I got explained the problem with doing any thing about it. Back in Canada two specialists recommended not doing any thing about it but did not explain why.

Now if I was just shopping around I probably would not have got the explanation.

I spent 10 days in Ram hospital in January. The hospital cost worked out to 100 dollars a day very cheap the anti-biotics another story all together. Hospital care great Dr. good as well. When I left he started writing me a script and I told him no you can stop I will buy downtown he kind of pissed and moaned but I told him I wasn't taking the script. Went downtown bought 10day supply for about 10 dollars the hospital would have charged 100.

I totally agree with this advice.

Yes - do seek a referral from an unbiased 'family' doctor or even two referrals, then find out where these specialists can be consulted.

Having used both Sripath and Chiang Mai Ram hospital over many years, it's the doctor's knowledge, experience, 'diagnostic intuition' and attitude to the patient that really counts, and there is no guarantee that going to either is going to guarantee that you will get the 'best' physician, since many of them rotate between different places.

Having said that, it is clear that Ram is much more expensive, but it's an internationally recognised hospital with fairly high standards of cleanliness, maintenance and efficiency.

By contrast, Sripath is scruffy, with little attention paid to general appearances. During my most recent visits I was dismayed to see so little attention paid to notices hanging off walls, etc., and a general air of surface neglect and poor housekeeping prevailed. The MRI room in the basement was an untidy unsightly mess of papers and boxes; other areas reflected this, good, strict management is lacking, and they are far away from achieving international standards, at least in terms of overall appearances and aesthetics.

I notice also the unpleasant 'service charge syndrome' creeps in, and at a recent out- patient visit to the 9th floor, the doctor's 2-minute consultation was a reasonable Baht 150, but a 'Nursing Charge' (a simple blood pressure measurement!) of Baht 100 plus the usual 'Hospital Service Fee' of Baht 100 was added, total 200 baht for doing absolutely nothing, and 50 baht more than the actual doctor's fee - which of course is ridiculous. This might indicate that an element of greed may, alas, be taking over at Sripath.

In view of Sripath's general unattractive countenance, the packed elevators, the crowded waiting rooms and long waits, plus the hassle of parking, these extra 'service' charges are really unacceptable, and I'm frankly reluctant to go back there, although I have always found the actual surgery/treatments to be beyond criticism.

I anyway wish you well, wherever you decide to go.

Sripat has excellent doctors and technicians, regardless of how it appears. Their prices have been on the rise since January 2010.

Everywhere has upped their fees. Recently I took my child to McCormick for a follow-up visit. All the doctor did was look in his throat with a flashlight - nothing else. The charge was 300 Baht. I questioned the bill but was told that "everyone has to pay the new extra 100 Baht fee" whatever that means.
