Drinking Water Test Kit, Khorat

Recommended Posts

Posted

We live outside of Khorat and rely on rain water and bottled water as the local piped water has some salt content and sediment.

We want to check the rain and bottled water for purity/healthiness. Any suggestions on where to get a test kit as I am not that familiar with downtown Khorat.

Or any other suggestions on how to get the water tested. The wife says we can not trust the local authorities!

Thank you for any replies.

Many years ago when my last company dealt with water purification equipment as an agency line, we would get SGS to perform water quality checks for us. The checks covered the usual pathogens, ph, minerals, metals and chemicals, plus assessment for colour and clarity - a full report for purity and potability. Perhaps you might check to see if SGS have a branch in Korat. Get your wife to check in the phone book. Testing Laboratories would be a starting point.

Here you go - I googled SGS (Thailand) Ltd and they have an office in Nakornrachasima at 1340/46 Suranaree Road, Tambon Nai-Muang, Tel: 044-922-521/2, Fax: 044-922-520.

Let us know how you get on.

Do you suspect that the bottled water is not clean enough for drinking?

I would think it is not if botteled water is good but that rain water is FREE and is it good comeing off of the roof.I have also always thought about this.We use only rain water from the roof to drink and cook with. But is it healthy to do so?We do not buy water in the bottle unless we have to.

For cooking rain water is wonderful, as drinking water it is not suitable in the long term. Rain water is demineralized water and therefore it will "thief" minerals from your body. Your body do not need the minerals from the water, but your body will lose minerals to the water if it not contains sufficient minerals. In Europe demineralized water is used as a treatment to "clean out" poisoned stuff from your body, but it should not be used as a regular drinking source, it causes headache, migraine and other symptoms of a leak of minerals.....

I wouldn't do this if I was you unless you have suitably tested, filtered and treated the water beforehand. Roofs are filthy with bird crap, air pollutants etc etc.
